Job description

The Admissions Counselor, Recruitment Specialist is responsible for attracting and engaging with prospective students, ensuring they understand the opportunities and programs available at MBKU. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in student recruitment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for higher education. The Admissions Counselor, Recruitment Specialist will partake in recruitment and admissions activities for the University, cultivate and manage inquiries, guide prospective students through the admissions process, conduct student appointments, participate in on-campus University recruitment events, travel to and attend recruitment fairs, connect with and present to pre-health clubs, and work to meet the University’s recruitment goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSI­­BILITIES
  • Assist with Major Events produced by the Director of Recruitment and Engagement, including planning and executing all major on campus events, such as Open House, Workshop, See Yourself at SCCO, Discover MBKU: High School Day event, etc. Be on campus to host the virtual component of the major events that run concurrently with the event on the main campus
  • Produce Minor Events with the support of the Director of Recruitment and Engagement: Plan and execute on campus events such as club-visits, group shadowing opportunities, Super Sim Day, and Program-Specific events
  • Host and help produce regular tour events on campus 1-2 times per month
  • Attend and present during MBKU webinars, and other virtual events
  • Create or update PPT presentations, recruitment materials, promotional messaging, and communication campaigns as needed
  • Build a strong knowledge of MBKU, including but not limited to; its programs, policies, and relevant information related to the healthcare industries our programs represen
  • Host engaging presentations and information sessions for prospective students and their guests both in person or virtually
  • Strategize with the Admissions and Enrollment team as it relates to recruitment, event planning, communications, etc
  • Develop and implement comprehensive recruitment strategies based on historical data and industry trends
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community partners, including but not limited to; school counselors and advisors, community colleges, pre-health clubs, and feeder colleges and universities to develop and meet the recruitment goals of MBKU
  • Manage prospective student pipelines and initiate meaningful communication (telephone, text, social media, email, etc.) with prospective students during all stages of the recruitment process
  • Manage the Recruitment Spreadsheet, including updating events, planning and executing travel to recruitment fairs/events/school visits, corresponding with event coordinator to secure the visit, etc. Identify what events to attend, what opportunities for recruiting to seek, etc
  • Manage all recruitment materials, including creating bundles for admissions officers, faculty or students who are participating in events. Follow up after events to gather surplus materials and reset. Assist with reordering inventory as needed
  • Attend external recruitment events including fairs, conferences, and other tabling events
  • Assist with application review, interview days, advising sessions, etc. as needed.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Demonstrated speaking ability in both individual and large group settings, analytical thinking, and creative problem solving
  • Familiarity with admissions (e.g., CAS, CRM, etc.) and educational (e.g., SIS, ERP, etc.) software would be an advantage. Experience with Element451 is a plus
  • Must be proficient with Zoom, WordPress, Google Docs, and various Social Media platforms
  • Flexibility with working a few times a month on Saturdays or evenings to execute events for prospective students
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the team regarding tasks in process.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degre
  • 1-2 years of experience in admissions, enrollment management/student recruitmen
  • Experience working with and serving student populations

In 1904, Marshall B. Ketchum, MD, opened the Los Angeles School of Ophthalmology and Optometry in Los Angeles. Dr. Ketchum was a visionary entrepreneur and prominent leader in the optometric profession. He made very significant and long-standing contributions in his field of care, in California and throughout the nation.

In the early ‘70s the College moved to its current home in Fullerton, CA and was renamed Southern California College of Optometry. But even the pioneering Dr. Ketchum could not have envisioned his school would grow to become Marshall B. Ketchum University, an independent, private, non-profit, accredited educational institution encompassing multiple disciplines.
