Job description

Position Goal
To assist with proper maintenance of Durable Medical Equipment supplies/orders and assist with Casting and W/C Pharmacy as necessary with patient care activities. Preform all patient care activities for cast and post-op care.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Escort patients as necessary from the waiting area to the cast room and/or DME area for analysis of needs.
  • Remove and apply casts, both fiberglass, plaster and other appliances as needed
  • Assist in fracture reductions and minor surgical procedures as well as remove sutures, staples, and apply bandages.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment.
  • Stock and maintain workspaces.
  • Assist with supply, DME ordering, inventory activities, receiving etc. and in always maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
  • Deliver DME products to area hospitals as needed.
  • Obtain authorization for custom braces and all DME prescribed for worker's compensation patients.
  • Review DME receipts to ensure billing of items daily.
  • Responsible for patient care activities such as determining proper DME sizing and fitting items when needed.
  • Work DME hold buckets in workflow dashboard in Athena throughout the day.
  • Ensure DME orders and procedure documentation is complete prior to issuing DME.
  • Assist in properly and accurately dispensing pre-packed medications to patients as directed by Physician.
  • Triage cast patients with problems in absence of physician if necessary.
  • Provide back-up support in performing Medical Assistant duties when necessary (if applicable).

Experience:
Required:
  • One (1) year Orthopaedic healthcare experience.

Preferred:
  • One (1) year of Ortho Tech or two (2) years casting experience.

Education:
Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified DME/Cast Technician

Preferred:
  • Completion of an accredited Orthopaedic specialist training program.

Special Qualifications:
Required:
• Valid Driver's License, satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR) and proof of insurance required for position on-boarding.
• Annual MVR may be required per policy and procedure; background reports may be ran as needed throughout the course of employment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
• Must have the ability to work independently.
• Must have a working knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
• Must have knowledge of fracture care coding along with CPT and ICD-10 codes.
• Must possess excellent computer skills.
