The Onsite Materials Manager will plan, direct, or coordinate the activities of buyers, purchasing officers, and related workers involved in purchasing materials, products, and services. Includes wholesale or retail trade merchandising managers and procurement managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Interact in a professional manner with suppliers/customers.
  2. Maintain a safe working environment by monitoring safety procedures and equipment.
  3. Responsible for leading all aspects of material planning, purchasing, inventory management, and supplier coordination to ensure uninterrupted production while optimizing inventory investment and overall supply chain performance.
  4. Manage demand forecasting, material requirements planning (MRP), and inventory replenishment strategies.
  5. Monitor material availability and proactively resolve shortages that could impact production or customer deliveries.
  6. Balance customer service levels with inventory investment through effective planning and scheduling.
  7. Analyze forecast accuracy, demand variability, and inventory trends to improve planning performance.
  8. Collaborate with suppliers to improve lead times, reduce risk, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  9. Continually reduce RAW and WIP inventory levels (per sales dollar) without disrupting production or adding cost to operations or incoming freight.
  10. Assessment and planning of all shop floor requirements through the interpretation of the MRP report.
  11. Work with Sales/Product Manager on materials for new product start up and assure product planning meets customer expectations.
  12. Review work throughout the work process and at completion to ensure that it has been performed properly.
  13. Develop and maintain master production schedules based on customer demand, capacity, and inventory targets.
  14. Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while monitoring supplier performance for quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost.
  15. Partner with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Sales, Customer Service, and Finance to support business priorities.
  16. Identify opportunities to improve material flow, planning processes, procurement efficiency, and inventory accuracy.
  17. Lead, coach, and develop the planning, purchasing, and inventory teams to achieve operational excellence.
  18. Complete required adjustment based on cycle count results.
  19. Drive initiatives to reduce excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.
  20. Monitor inventory accuracy through cycle counting, audits, and inventory control processes.
  21. Develop and report inventory performance metrics including inventory turns, days on hand, and service levels.

Position Supervised or Directed:

Reports to Plant Manager with a dotted line to the corporate procurement.

Supervises MRO buyer, production and shipping scheduler, customer service, cycle counting, shipping and receiving.

Qualifications, Experience requirements:

  • Degree/Diploma Obtained: High School Diploma or GED. College degree in general business or related fields preferred.
  • Additional Training Requirements: Must have knowledge of company procedures.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with working knowledge of MRP concepts.
  • Proficiency in SAP MM.

General Requirements:

  • Able to travel to other divisions when required.
  • Detailed and hands-on oriented.
  • Availability of going to the division from Monday to Friday.
