Duties, Responsibilities & Other

KCI is seeking an experienced Project Manager - Diver to lead underwater inspection and engineering projects across our infrastructure portfolio. As a PM6-level role, this position requires a seasoned professional capable of managing complex, multi-faceted projects-both above and below the waterline.

This role blends technical project execution, client leadership, and business development with a deep (literally) understanding of dive operations, safety, and inspection protocols. You'll be responsible for driving high-impact results while leading field teams, managing resources, and maintaining compliance with industry and safety standards. 

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Lead all phases of underwater inspection and marine engineering projects, including bridge, dam, and waterfront structures.

  • Manage field dive operations in compliance with ADCI and OSHA regulations, ensuring diver safety and data quality.

  • Coordinate internal technical teams and external partners (subconsultants, vendors, contractors) to deliver projects on time and within budget.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients-building trust, resolving challenges, and ensuring exceptional service delivery.

  • Prepare inspection reports, QA documentation, and final deliverables in alignment with DOT and USACE requirements.

Technical Oversight

  • Oversee dive planning, including site assessments, risk analysis, and safety briefings.

  • Review field findings and compare to design drawings or prior inspection records to assess structural integrity.

  • Conduct or oversee preparation of technical documents, sketches, photographs, and cost estimates.

  • Interpret and apply regulations, standards, and specifications related to marine and structural inspections.

Financial & Operational Management

  • Track project performance, schedule, and financial metrics (WIP, AR, budget adherence).

  • Negotiate scopes, fees, and contract terms with clients and subs.

  • Provide regular updates through progress reports and monthly project review meetings.

Team Development & Compliance

  • Mentor and train junior divers and technical staff to develop talent and uphold KCI standards.

  • Promote a strong safety culture by contributing to site-specific safety plans and enforcing adherence in the field.

  • Ensure compliance with KCI procedures and relevant federal/state/local guidelines.

Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities in underwater inspection, waterfront development, and infrastructure rehabilitation.

  • Support proposal writing, resume/project writeups, and marketing materials with detailed project closeouts and imagery.

  • Represent KCI at industry events, conferences, and client meetings to promote diving services and capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • ADCI-certified Commercial Diver 

  • Strong working knowledge of EM 385-1-1, DOT inspection protocols, and applicable marine construction standards

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license 

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required: Bachelor's Degree in related field (AEC Industry) and minimum of 3 years of related professional experience, or 7 years of equivalent professional experience. Participation in continuing education and professional development programs. Experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery. Demonstrated leadership abilities to inspire and motivate project teams. Proven organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders. Technical knowledge in the specific field of the project. Proficiency in project management software and tools, with the ability to develop and maintain comprehensive project plans and documentation. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to project management, quality assurance, and safety protocols. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment. Negotiation skills to manage contracts, scope changes, and stakeholder agreements effectively. Understanding of accounting principles to effectively manage project budgets, financial reporting, and resource allocation.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred: Master's Degree in related field (AEC Industry)

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required: Ability to complete the KCI PM Training and Contract Risk Training along with passing the PM Board within 6 months of start date.
