Job description

  • Assistant Business Manager

Definition: Manages the district's payroll and personnel operations including administration of employee benefits. Directs payroll accounting functions including maintaining coding, reviewing accounting records and compiling budgetary and accounting data. Maintains district accounting system. Assists and communicates with the public and staff on payroll and accounting issues.
Examples of Duties: Works under the general supervision of the Business Administrator:
Performs payroll and personnel operations including directing payroll processing.
Processes forms for payroll deductions such as insurance and W-4 forms.
Establishes, maintains and updates personnel records.
Reconciles payroll vendor billings and remits payments to payroll vendors.
Prepares state and federal payroll reports such as W-2's, 941's, South Dakota Retirement System, and Department of Labor reports.
Acts as employee benefits coordinator.
Coordinates annual benefit enrollment process.
Acts as district liaison with health, life, dental insurance companies.
Coordinates sick leave bank committee.
Oversees accounting functions, reviews accounting records for accuracy and makes corrections as needed, and maintains coding structure.
Compiles budgetary and accounting data, including maintaining staffing records for budgetary analysis.
Coordinates compilation of information for annual audit.
Assists with preparation of annual report and financial statements.
Verifies and reconciles accounts, completes year end accounting entries, assures assets properly capitalized.
Assist with grant claiming and monitoring process.
Records management coordinator.
Educational Level: Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred but any combination of relevant education and work experience may be considered. Extra credit for CPA or MPA designation.
Experience Desired: Minimum three to five years of progressive work experience in accounting, payroll, or benefits administration. Candidate must be able to demonstrate consistent past performance with meeting task deadlines.
Other Information: Must be able to work independently and as part of team. This is a permanent full-time position. The Pierre School District offers the following benefits: health, life, dental insurance; participation in the South Dakota Retirement System, paid holidays, vacation leave, sick leave, and more.
Salary Range: $29.22-$39.49/hr. depending on education and experience.
