Job description

POSITION: DISTRIBUTION CENTER MANAGER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Distribution Center Manager is responsible for managing Logicar’s distribution business to achieve company objectives.  This position will manage all warehouse operations personnel within the organization, and act as a strategic partner on the leadership team while liaising among different departments to improve operational results.  This position will report to the Operations and Logistics Manager.
Purchasing & Inventory Control
  • Responsible for preparing and placing purchase orders for stocked products supplied by overseas and domestic vendors based on inventory levels, sales trends, minimum batch sizes and order lead times to Logicar Inc. distribution center(s) in the US.  This may include delegating some of these functions to the Purchasing & Inventory Control Analyst.
  • Responsible for ensuring that adequate stock levels are maintained at all times at Logicar allowing for target 95+% fill rate with customer orders while ensuring that inventory months are optimized to eliminate overstocking and potential for product expiration.
  • Coordinate logistics of all international and domestic inbound shipments in order to meet projected arrival dates.
  • Preparing all documents in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve any related arrival issues (incorrect documents, missing bills of lading, classification issues, country of origin issues etc.).
  • Coordinate the flow and compliance of all import documentation for foreign sourced vendor purchase orders.
  • Maintain relationships with existing suppliers; noting trends, issues and changes to management when necessary.
  • Monitor price adjustments and communicate changes as necessary to responsible AAI and Logicar management.
  • Managing the Purchasing and Inventory Analyst to ensure that stock checks and cycle counts are conducted on a perpetual system and that prompt action is taken to investigate and address and correct any discrepancies to ensure that we continuously maintain accurate inventory records on the company’s perpetual inventory management system.
  • Monitor necessary costings for receiving goods into Magstar warehouse management system in a timely manner and for providing product info and arrival status information to Logistics and Sales staff.  This may include delegating some of these functions to the Purchasing & Inventory Control Analyst.
  • Responsible for managing duty-drawback program and ensuring that drawbacks are optimized for all exports, records are maintained according to requirements and drawback refunds are received at least twice per year.
  • Responsible for ensuring that product relabeling & kit production are performed in an efficient and timely manner with 100% accuracy and that adequate stock levels are maintained at all times.

Operations
  • Responsible for managing the warehouse operations to ensure that the company’s delivery and service commitments are met and that operating, housekeeping and safety standards are maintained at the highest level. This includes ensuring that:
    • Import containerized purchase orders are received are checked off and received into stock within 2 working days of offloading.
    • Domestic purchase orders are received are completed within 24 hours of receipt of goods
    • All customer orders are picked, checked and shipped out within turnaround times established by customer type.
    • Orders are shipped out with 100% accuracy and processes and checks are in place to eliminate errors.
  • Responsible for ensuring the security of company assets.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring KPI’s to ensure that the warehouse operations are optimized and in line with industry standards and expectations.
  • Champion the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of organizational management protocols, practices, and tools.
  • Drive safety, quality, and profitability to meet or exceed company objectives.

Logistics
  • Serve as backup to the Operations & Logistics Manager in delegating and directing the processing of sales orders received from customers, including the preparation of invoices, packing lists and shipping documents.
  • Oversee logistics process of non-stocked products between customers and third-party vendors.
  • Directing resolutions on transportation issues, handling discrepancies, and assist in communicating to customers, and following-up to ensure problems are resolved.

Human Resources and Management
  • Supervision and motivation of the warehouse team including employee evaluation, hiring, counseling and disciplinary procedures, which includes ensuring proper documentation is maintained.  Also responsible for the training and development to ensure that employees provide the highest quality customer service and operations efficiency.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe work environment, and that all staff comply with safety guidelines.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all staff are properly trained, and have required Hazmat, Safety, OSHA and other required training and certification, and participate in ongoing training as required by law.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all laws, terms of employment and regulations are adhered to and employees abide by highest ethics principles.
  • Monitor, report and file claims for Workers Compensation as necessary.
  • Ensure that new employees are properly screened and oriented into their jobs to ensure optimum utilization, and that employee files are maintained up-to-date and per regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for implementing and managing operations staff incentive programs to optimize performance.
  • Support and maintain an open-door policy for employees.
  • Assigning work to employees as required.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere strictly to all housekeeping, security, safety, code of conduct, uniform standards, operating practices and other rules and policies as developed or amended from time to time.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Leading multiple departments with approximately five direct reports as well as indirect reports.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works in an office/warehouse setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and other office machines.  
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an hour for break.
TRAVEL
Some travel may be required for this position.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, equivalent experience will be considered.
  2. 5+ years management experience in a Distribution Center/Fulfillment Center environment required.
  3. 5+ years handling inventory/operational tasks.
  4. Experience in managing Import and Export Logistics
  5. Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) experience required.
  6. Fluency in Spanish is desired.
  7. Ability to adapt and change processes to keep pace with the evolving business requirements.
  8. Outstanding organizational and leadership skills to optimally respond to urgent situations.
  9. Must be process oriented with good judgment and decision-making abilities.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability and desire to lead a team.
  11. Hazmat, DOT and OSHA certification or knowledge is desired.
  12. Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office applications is required.
