The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees. It includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 249-bed community hospital, Rockville General, a campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a 102-bed facility, a large multispecialty provider group and visiting nurse services. The Greater Manchester Region serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision and in accordance with established policies procedures and guidelines performs activities associated with the delivery of supply and distribution services and assist in resolution of routine problems and process and improvements.
COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability to obtain needed certification(s) from manufacturers and from technology accrediting organizations is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and clearly with co-workers in the English language.
  • A basic level of skill in the use of Microsoft Windows-based WORD, EXCEL and OUTLOOK software programs. Ability to learn and utilize department specific software.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision from management to complete all tasks with accuracy and in a timely fashion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Deliver supplies to patient care areas in an efficient, accurate and punctual manner.
2. Maintain adequate supply levels in all patient care areas and in designated areas handling supplies to ensure sterility and proper infection control.
3. Clean and maintain supply closets and shelving in a neat and orderly fashion in order for staff to easily find needed supplies.
4. Control inventory by cycle counts, monitoring usage in all inventory areas and report any fluctuations to the Nurse Manager and Distribution Manager for evaluation.
5. Order supplies using the handheld computer. Download inventories, upload and process orders using the current inventory system to maintain adequate par levels of supplies on carts, floors and inventories.
6. Pick up and deliver STAT lab items ordered by the care thread system.
7. Check, receive and distribute incoming supplies and stock in accordance with policies and procedures. Prepare and deliver stock verifying each item number, description quantities and delivery locations.
8. Deliver stock to proper locations and obtain signatures from the destination department. Maintain packing slips with signed copies of receiving papers.
9. Respond to calls for service and resolve routine problems encountered by departments. Refer unusual or complex problems to the Distribution Manager for resolution.
10. Sort mail into proper slots and send outgoing mail to the proper destination. Deliver all mail to the proper department and pick up outgoing mail to be sorted. Deliver interoffice mail to proper departments.
11. Inventory, order and deliver all medical gas to maintain the appropriate PAR level for each department.
12. Periodically inspect inventory stock for expired items and integrity of the supply packaging.
13. Make recommendations to improve processes, minimize waste and improve inventory control.
14. Other duties as assigned. Work as directed
Qualifications:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, maintain a driving record free of any violations and pass a safe driving educational program upon hire and annually thereafter in order to participate in the Fleet Vehicle Program.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Twelve (12) months or more experience in an inventory management setting, warehouse, stock department, requisition ordering, or receiving supplies environment in order to gain a working knowledge of operation and procedures.
