Job description

Position Summary... What you'll do...Role summary: The Distinguished Architect will lead architecture for critical Wibey components like agent orchestration, harness engineering, etc. Wibey is Walmart's AI-powered developer platform used by thousands of Walmart associates. This role will help drive the technical direction for core Wibey components like the agent harness, core orchestration layer, how it integrates into developer surfaces like CLI, VS Code, IntelliJ, and web, and how it enforces governance and security at scale. The architect will set direction on agentic system design, multi-provider LLM routing, and platform reliability, while working closely with engineering leadership to make sure architecture decisions hold up as Wibey grows. About the team: The Wibey team at Walmart is focused on advancing software development by bridging intention and execution across multiple platforms. It supports core harness layers and client surfaces, applying architectural principles and agile methodologies to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions. The team collaborates with stakeholders to set technical priorities and implement innovative frameworks. With expertise in enterprise and solution architecture, cloud computing, and emerging technologies, the team drives continuous improvement and ensures reliable, effective software delivery aligned with Walmart’s strategic goals. What you'll do:
  • Define architecture blueprints for Wibey's core platform and client surfaces, covering agent orchestration, multi-provider LLM routing, and durable workflow execution.
  • Drive the architecture for Wibey’s agent harness.
  • Set technical direction for Wibey's governance and security architecture, including policy enforcement, vulnerability management, and compliance
  • Guide engineering teams on coding standards, frameworks, and tooling choices that scale across CLI, IDE, and web clients.
  • Lead requirement analysis and technical scoping in partnership with product and engineering leads, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform health.
  • Own deployment architecture across cloud and on-prem environments, including CI/CD pipeline design for a fast-moving developer platform.
  • Build alignment across a large, cross-functional stakeholder group by communicating technical tradeoffs clearly and backing recommendations with data.
What you'll bring:
  • Deep experience in solution and enterprise architecture, with a track record of defining blueprints that hold up across multiple products and teams.
  • Experience architecting agentic or AI-orchestration systems: multi-agent workflows, tool/MCP integration, or LLM gateway patterns.
  • Experience designing or building agent harnesses, the runtime layer that governs how an AI agent plans, calls tools, manages context, and recovers from failure, and an understanding of how harness design tradeoffs affect reliability and correctness at scale.
  • Strong background in coding standards and frameworks, with experience guiding teams building secure, scalable software.
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize complex, sometimes ambiguous requirements and translate them into a clear technical direction.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior engineering leaders through clear, direct communication.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and CI/CD practices.
