More about your role: At NASK, we’re growing, building great teams, and doing exciting work. We are looking for a highly skilled Principal Database Architect / Lead DBA to design, implement, and own a high-performance database infrastructure from the ground up. You will be tackling complex data challenges at a massive scale. If you are obsessed with query optimization, latency reduction, and designing systems that can smoothly handle billions of rows without breaking a sweat, this is the role for you. In this position, you will bridge the gap between architectural design and hands-on implementation, ensuring our data layer is robust, highly available, and tuned to perfection. This role involves architecting, designing, implementing, and performance tuning and administering database systems. A critical element of this work will be ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability of the database system. The candidate will research, architect and design database systems and solutions. Optimize and tune database performance. Collaborate with the greater development and systems team to plan for future changes and performance tune and change the system as the customer’s needs changes. They will manage database services, support migrations, and operate in Linux environments, working closely with engineering teams to deliver secure, high-availability data solutions that enable efficient information flow across the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • STEM Bachelor’s degree: engineering, computer science, or informationtechnology
  • 5+ years of dedicated experience in database administration, architecture, and engineering at an enterprise scale.
  • Deep, hands‑on expertise with: Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB
  • Experience optimizing and tuning databases for high performance
  • Experience working in Linux/Unix environments
  • Strong understanding of hardware limitations (I/O, CPU, Memory) and how they interact with database engines.
  • Experience operating high performance distributed database systems
  • Experience operating high availability Databases
  • experience managing and scaling multi-terabyte or petabyte-scale databases. Experience working with data streaming
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases.
  • In‑depth knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Experience deploying, operating, and monitoring databases in Kubernetes and cloud
  • Software development experience, particularly interfacing with a database via Python on Linux
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with high level stakeholders
  • Ability work across engineering teams to achieve a greater vision
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Security clearance: Active TS/SCI w/poly
  • Certifications: Industry‑recognized certifications like Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or AWS Certified Database
  • Operating system, networking, storage administration experience highly desired
  • Experience with Graph databases and NoSQL
  • Experience/knowledge of C/C++
  • Experience with cloud database technologies (AWS RDS, Oracle, MS SQL, Azure)
  • Familiarity with AWS Cloud products (EC2, EBS, S3, Lambda, Aurora, Dynamo DB, EMR, DMS data migration, Athena, Glue, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, etc.)
  • A strong understanding of the cloud computing model as it relates to enterprise productivity
  • Experience migrating large-scale legacy databases to modern, distributed architectures.
