Centennial High School Social Worker

Position Summary

The Social Worker is a key member of the student support team, providing social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health services. This position supports student success through crisis response, attendance intervention, providing resources for highly mobile families and coordination with special education teams.

This position collaborates with students, families, staff, community agencies, and outside providers to promote academic achievement, positive behavior, and overall well-being.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Current Minnesota Board of Social Work License or ability to obtain licensure by Fall 2026.
  • Valid Minnesota School Social Worker License issued by PELSB.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a secondary (9-12) school setting.
  • Knowledge of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), restorative practices, and trauma-informed care.
  • Experience collaborating with community agencies and mental health providers.
  • Familiarity with special education programming and requirements.
  • Experience working with students with emotional and behavioral needs, including exposure to Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) programming.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of behavioral interventions, mental health supports, counseling techniques, and community resources.
  • Ability to conduct assessments and provide effective social work, crisis intervention, and referral services.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and multidisciplinary teams from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Student Services and Support

  • Assess student needs using formal and informal methods.
  • Provide individual and group social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health support.
  • Develop and implement interventions to address academic, attendance, behavioral, and social concerns.
  • Facilitate re-entry meetings and coordinate supports for students returning from treatment, hospitalization, or extended absences.
  • Connect students and families with school and community resources.

Special Education and Student Support Teams

  • Participate in special education evaluations, IEP development, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Attend IEP meetings and serve as a District Representative as assigned.
  • Participate in MTSS, Child Study, Support Services, and other multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support specialized behavioral programs and assist with third-party billing and required documentation.

Consultation and Collaboration

  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and support staff regarding student needs and intervention strategies.
  • Coordinate services with community agencies, mental health providers, county services, and treatment facilities.
  • Facilitate problem-solving meetings and support care transitions for students and families.

Crisis Response and Student Safety

  • Provide crisis intervention and support during student mental health, behavioral, or personal crises.
  • Conduct risk assessments and assist in the development of safety and intervention plans.
  • Serve as a resource regarding child protection reporting requirements and coordinate follow-up with outside agencies.

Homeless Education Services

  • Serve as the school liaison for students experiencing homelessness.
  • Coordinate services and supports in accordance with McKinney-Vento requirements.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain records and documentation in compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Attend required supervision meetings, professional development, and district training.
  • Provide staff consultation and training related to student mental health, trauma-informed practices, and behavior supports.
  • Uphold the ethical standards of the social work profession and contribute to a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a fast-paced school environment with frequent interruptions and competing priorities. The ability to remain flexible, collaborate across departments, and support students, families, and staff in a variety of settings is essential.
