Title: Clerk III, Dispatch
Under direct supervision, communicates with school bus drivers to receive and provide instructions and information on a daily basis and handles and responds to emergency situations (i.e. accidents, customer complaints/concerns, and traffic/weather conditions) with some guidance from the Superintendent or another designee. Job duties also include working closely with the Dispatch Supervisor on various assignments, projects, and staff development.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are representative of this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
• Provides communications (e.g. two-way radio communication) among school bus drivers, district managers, and administrators; and reports each radio transmission verbatim on a daily dispatch log for documentation purposes.
• Receives and responds to telephone calls, emails, and voicemails regarding Transportation department services and notifies appropriate personnel (e.g. Dispatch Supervisor) regarding priority situations from parents, students, and bus drivers.
• Responds to all emergency situations on and off buses and contacts appropriate schools and staff, and agencies such as 911 or Emergency Medical Services; and maintains documentation of each specific situation or event.
• Monitors traffic information and updates the bus delay web page and phone lines for the school system.
• Informs bus drivers/assistants and other appropriate authorities (e.g. staff and administrators) on upcoming events and procedural changes via two-way communication.
• Maintains dispatch daily log.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of three (3) years experience as a school bus driver required.
