The Opportunity:
Assistant Head Golf Mechanic
The Assistant Head Golf Mechanic supports the Equipment Manager and golf course maintenance team This role is hands-on and essential to keeping our operations running smoothly and efficiently. The Assistant Head Golf Mechanic reports directly to the equipment manager, as well as the Superintendent and Director of Golf Maintenance and Landscape on an as needed basis.
What You'll Do
  • Assisting the Equipment Manager in the repair and maintenance of various diesel, electric, and gasoline-powered equipment, daily setup of all needed machinery, maintaining our high standards for quality of cut and the comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment must be a top priority.
  • Assist in the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, utility carts, tractors, and small engines.
  • Assist in the inspection, diagnosis and repair of departmental utility carts and other various equipment.
  • Assist in the overhaul and repair of maintenance vehicles, mowing equipment and other power equipment.
  • Communicates any equipment-related problems, quality of cut issues, maintenance issues, known safety hazards or unsafe practices to leadership or appropriate departments.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, blade sharpening, lubrication, and filter replacements
  • Communicate equipment status to supervisors.
  • Assists in controlling tool access and use by maintenance staff.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and shop areas are kept clean, organized, and safe.
  • Adjusts cutting units on mowing equipment.
  • Complete course checks to ensure cut quality and proper operation of equipment and make emergency repairs as needed.
  • Train crew to operate various types of maintenance equipment.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Assist with inventory management of parts and supplies.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • In the absence of the Equipment Manager, manage daily duties and other technician(s).
  • Adheres to all health, safety, and environmental regulations. (Proper disposal of waste oils, tires, etc.)
  • Support the Equipment Manager and perform additional tasks as needed.

What You Bring
  • Working knowledge of some turf and landscape equipment functions, systems, and safety. (Cutting unit set-up, hydraulic theory and diagnosis, electrical theory and diagnosis, combustion engines, welding, etc.)
  • Ability to utilize various trade tools and the safety guidelines of their use.
  • Ability to move heavy objects.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Basic understanding of the game of golf and the effects this position has on the overall condition and playability of the game.
  • The ability to communicate on a professional level with staff, vendors, members, and guests daily.
  • Must want to be a leader
  • Must be interested in mentoring and growing the technician team where applicable.
  • Completion of EMCP Level 1 and 2
  • Must be willing to take on more responsibilities as the Equipment Manager, Superintendent and/or Director of Golf Maintenance and Landscape sees fit
  • Must have a complete understanding of the role and its place and importance in the success of the team.
