Position Purpose:
At The Spice & Tea Exchange®, it is our mission to create and share the experience of a more flavorful life. The Retail Assistant Manager will assist the General Retail Manager with overall store business objectives, including the achievement of sales, profitability goals, staffing, compliance, and daily operations. This individual will demonstrate excellent relationship building skills, with both internal and external partners clients, to establish an exceptional service culture. The Retail Assistant Manager will improve store operations and profitability while promoting consistency within and acting as a brand ambassador of The Spice & Tea Exchange® brand.
Essential job functions include but are not limited to:
  • Drive a positive, customer-focused store culture.
  • Ensure each guest receives stellar customer service and is welcomed into the store and greeted.
  • Greet incoming customers, answer phone calls, and address customer complaints. Operate register to complete sales and collect payment.
  • Maintain solid, accurate and current product knowledge to adequately promote products by reading applicable publications and attending required training activities.
  • Field customer questions concerning product information, price and uses for products. Establish rapport with customers to ensure their return and/or word of mouth advertising.
  • Hire and train as needed to ensure adequate personnel is on hand to provide outstanding customer service.
  • Supervise, train and assist Retail Sales Associates in customer service, store maintenance and product promotions.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule for employees and promotions centered on holiday sales and other cycles.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels, ensure stocking, implement purchasing plans and maintain contact with Distribution Center to ensure maximum efficiency in meeting sales goals.
  • Implement cross-training of employees to always maintain productivity.
  • Manage all controllable costs with a view to maintaining profitability.
  • Ensure the store always remains clean and presentable.
  • Assist General Retail Manager with operational processes and maintaining the store in conditions of excellence to attract and retain guests, create a positive environment for staff, and enable efficient operations and high productivity.
  • Drive yourself and the team to meet and exceed sales goals and standards of performance; hold staff accountable for meeting goals, and provide a fun, full-service shopping experience.
  • Maintain merchandise and product inventory levels throughout the store, e.g., on shelves, counters and tables, and containers.
  • Contribute to team effort, comply with operating standards and procedures pertaining to the daily operation of the store.
  • Help maintain store appearance by contributing toward daily routines.

Knowledge and Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven customer focus with stellar customer service.
  • 3-5 years of high-volume retail management and leadership experience.
  • Adept in technology and retail supporting processes; skills including but not limited to: POS, Office Suite, Email and Web Access
  • Experience in inventory management, cycle counts, stock replenishment, shrink reduction, and pricing.
  • Drive sales performance and support achievement of store KPIs
  • Ability to utilize simple math skills to measure ingredients, read a scale and follow recipes.
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and Holidays
  • Ability to resolve operational issues quickly to minimize disruption.
  • Frequently communicates business practices, verbally and in writing, with ability to exchange accurate, concise, and consistent information, in English.
  • Support General Retail Manager with communication with Disney support team and TSTE® operations team.

Physical Requirements to perform the essential functions of this job:
  • Consistent ability to utilize hands and fingers to perform tasks as necessary for job duties (8+ hours per day).
  • Consistent capacity for visual acuity to monitor processes, examine materials and labels, and ensure quality and safety standards are met (8+ hours per day).
  • Consistently communicate in English utilizing both written and oral methods including the use of speech and hearing to communicate effectively with team members, customers, and the ability to engage in verbal discussions and listen attentively (8+ hours per day).
  • Consistent ability to perform various physical tasks that require continuous standing (8+ hours per day), sitting (4+ hours per day), walking (8+ hours per day), bending (8+ hours per day), reaching (8+ hours per day), squatting, (3-5 hours per day), lifting; up to 50 lbs. (8+ hours per day), carrying (8+ hours per day), pushing/pulling (3-5 hours per day), and maneuvering within a retail store and warehouse workspace (8+ hours per day).
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks (8+ hours per day).
  • Operation of, but not limited to, merchandising, stocking, picking, inventory, packaging, kitchen, and computer tools and equipment, retail store equipment and tools, printers and equipment (8+ hours per day).
  • Consistently work around spices; must not be sensitive or allergic to various scents, spices, fruits, extracts, aromas, or personal protective equipment (8+ hours per day).
