This is a 10-month position with a regular schedule of 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The base hourly rate is $16.22, with additional compensation available based on level of education and bilingual proficiency.
Purpose: The HS Discipline Secretary provides office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the school district. To accomplish these tasks, the HS Discipline Secretary works closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.
Responsible to: Head Secretary and Principal
Payment rate: As established by the Emporia Board of Education
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Experience as a secretary.
3. Demonstrated typing and filing skills.
4. Experience using various computers and computer programs.
5. Desire to continue career improvement.
6. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office.
7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Essential Functions:
1. Provide office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the school district.
2. Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
3. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
4. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
5. Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
6. Support the value of an education.
7. Support the vision and mission of USD 253.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
2. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
3. Occasionally requires stooping, bending, and reaching.
4. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
General Responsibilities:
- Screen visitors and telephone calls, directing them to the appropriate person/department.
- Screen and route incoming mail.
- Prepare outgoing mail.
- Compose, type, and copy correspondence, reports, bulletins, records, and other materials.
- Take and transcribe oral dictation.
- Obtain, gather, and organize pertinent data as needed.
- Maintain an orderly filing system.
- Schedule appointments, make travel arrangements, and assemble material for meetings.
- Assist in planning meeting agendas, and assist in preparing meeting summaries.
- Distribute office passes and notes as directed.
- Maintain and submit a daily log of school hours completed.
- Place orders for materials, verify quantities delivered, and distribute to staff.
- Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication.
- Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law.
- Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:
- Acceptable use of technology
- Sexual and racial harassment
- Child abuse reporting
- Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
- Maintain safe and well-organized instructional spaces.
- Respond to change in a productive manner.
- Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Secretary or Principal.
