Recreation Director

Full-Time | $50,000 – $65,000 annually

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Recreation Director to lead our Activities Department in our skilled nursing facility located in the Bronx, NY. The Recreation Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive therapeutic recreation program in compliance with New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) regulations and federal guidelines.

The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, creative, and experienced in long-term care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive activities program that meets NYS DOH and CMS regulations

  • Complete MDS sections related to activities and participate in care plan meetings

  • Conduct resident assessments and develop individualized activity care plans

  • Create and post monthly activity calendars

  • Plan and supervise group programs, 1:1 activities, community outings, and special events

  • Manage department budget and maintain activity supplies

  • Supervise, train, and schedule recreation staff and volunteers

  • Ensure appropriate documentation for surveys and audits

  • Prepare for and participate in Department of Health surveys

  • Maintain compliance with infection control and safety policies

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility required

  • Experience as a Recreation Director or Activities Director preferred

  • Knowledge of NYS DOH regulations for nursing homes

  • MDS and care planning experience required

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Certified Activities Director (ADC) or eligible preferred

  • Ability to pass background check and meet NYS health requirements
