Job Description:
We are seeking a Director, User Experience and Design to lead the design of embedded analytics experiences across a complex, multi-team product environment. This is a senior player/coach role with broad organizational influence, responsible for shaping user interaction models, driving design system maturity, and accelerating delivery through close collaboration with engineering and the strategic use of AI-powered design toolsets.
You will serve as the foremost UX authority on how users interact with analytics capabilities for our embedded product suite, working across product, engineering, and data teams to ensure our embedded analytics experiences are coherent, scalable, and best-in-class.
About insightsoftware
insightsoftware is a global provider of comprehensive financial reporting and enterprise performance management solutions. We empower organizations to unlock financial and operational intelligence by connecting, automating, and simplifying their most critical business processes. Our portfolio of solutions helps finance and accounting teams across 30,000+ organizations streamline financial close and consolidation, plan and budget more effectively, and deliver actionable insights through enhanced reporting and analytics.

Our solutions integrate seamlessly with leading ERP and data platforms, enabling our customers to make faster, more informed decisions. We're committed to innovation and customer success, continuously evolving our technology to meet the changing needs of modern finance teams in an increasingly complex business environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design Systems & Interaction Architecture
  • Own and evolve the embedded analytics design system, defining component libraries, interaction patterns, and usage guidelines that scale across multiple product teams and development tracks.

  • Establish and govern user interaction models for complex analytics surfaces including dashboards, data visualizations, filtering systems, drill-down experiences, and contextual data exploration.

  • Define and document design standards, ensuring consistency of experience across embedding contexts, host applications, and diverse end-user environments.

  • Drive adoption of design system components and patterns across teams, providing guidance and governance to maintain coherence at scale.

Cross-Team Collaboration & Engineering Partnership
  • Partner with Product Management to establish and operationalize a scalable user research practice.

  • Partner deeply and daily with frontend, backend, and platform engineering teams to translate design intent into technically sound, implementable solutions - acting as a true co-creator rather than a handoff-driven designer.

  • Collaborate with engineering leads to understand technical constraints and opportunities early in the design process, shaping interaction models that are both user-centered and architecturally achievable.

  • Participate actively in sprint ceremonies, architecture discussions, and technical reviews, contributing UX perspective to decisions that impact the end-user experience.

  • Define and maintain design tokens, API contracts for UI components, and shared front-end specifications in alignment with engineering conventions.

  • Champion a continuous feedback loop between design and engineering, using prototypes, annotations, and paired working sessions to reduce ambiguity and accelerate implementation.

AI-Augmented Design & Delivery
  • Leverage AI-powered design and prototyping tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Figma AI, and other generative toolsets) to accelerate wireframing, component generation, and design specification workflows.

  • Use AI toolsets to rapidly generate and validate interaction alternatives, enabling faster design iteration and more informed decision-making across the team.

  • Apply AI-assisted approaches to automate repetitive design tasks, produce production-ready component documentation, and support accessibility review and QA processes.

  • Stay current with the evolving landscape of AI tools relevant to UX practice and actively advocate for their adoption where they provide meaningful efficiency or quality gains.

  • Model effective human-AI collaboration for the broader design organization, sharing workflows and best practices that uplift team capability.

Strategic Leadership & Stakeholder Influence
  • Operate as a principal-level UX leader, influencing product strategy, roadmap prioritization, and design investment decisions through a deep understanding of user needs and analytics use cases.

  • Partner with Product Management and Engineering to align UX strategy with data platform capabilities and business priorities.

  • Facilitate design reviews, workshops, and critique sessions across multi-team contexts, driving alignment and resolving design ambiguity at scale.

  • Mentor and coach other designers, contributing to the growth of UX craft and embedded analytics expertise across the organization.

  • 8+ years of UX design experience, with at least 3 years at a principal or senior-lead level on complex, multi-team product environments.

  • Demonstrated expertise in defining and maintaining design systems for web-based products, including component libraries, interaction guidelines, and governance processes.

  • Proven track record designing embedded analytics, business intelligence, or data visualization experiences - with deep understanding of how users explore, interpret, and act on data.

  • Hands-on experience partnering with engineering teams through all phases of design and implementation, including participation in Agile/Scrum delivery processes.

  • Proficiency with AI-powered design toolsets and demonstrated ability to integrate them into day-to-day design and prototyping workflows.

  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to design scalable interaction models that hold coherence across embedding contexts and user personas.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to present design rationale clearly to executive, product, and engineering audiences.

  • Proficiency in Figma, including component architecture, auto-layout, variables, and design token management.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing for embedded analytics platforms or BI tools (e.g., Tableau Embedded, Looker, Power BI Embedded, Sisense, or equivalent).

  • Familiarity with front-end web technologies (HTML, CSS, React or similar frameworks) sufficient to communicate precisely with engineers and evaluate implementation fidelity.

  • Experience using AI code-assist tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar) to build interactive prototypes or contribute to front-end implementation.

  • Background working with data engineering or analytics engineering teams and comfort with concepts such as semantic layers, data models, and query performance.

  • Experience establishing UX design operations practices in large or growing design organizations.

What We Offer
  • A highly influential Director-level role with broad scope across a multi-product portfolio.

  • A collaborative culture where design, engineering, and product operate as true partners.

  • Access to cutting-edge AI tooling and an environment that actively invests in modern design workflows.

  • Competitive compensation, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

  • Flexible, remote-friendly working arrangements.
