Role Summary

The Managing Director Tax role sets the long-term enterprise-wide strategy and is responsible for translating strategic, financial, and operational goals into a cohesive, futureready tax strategy across Alaska Air Group (AAG). This role reports into the VP Tax and provides executive oversight of all tax planning, global structuring, financial modeling, and risk posture for the enterprise, ensuring alignment with the CFO, EC, corporate finance, corporate development, and government affairs. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for the directors and senior leaders across direct tax, indirect tax, international tax, tax technology, and tax accounting teams, ensuring that all parts of the tax organization execute against a unified longterm vision. 

Key Duties
  • Own and advance Alaska Air Group's enterprise tax strategy aligning tax outcomes to corporate strategy, capital allocation, cash flows, network/route growth, fleet decisions, and longrange financial plans. 
  • Deliver sustainable tax value for the enterprise through proactive planning and structuring (domestic, international, and indirect), enabling business growth while maintaining an appropriate risk posture and ethical standards. 
  • Serve as the executive owner of enterprise tax risk management, establishing governance, decision rights, and escalation protocols; ensuring readiness for audits/controversy; and protecting the company's reputation with regulators and taxing authorities. 
  • Lead executive leadership for tax accounting and financial reporting, including GAAP tax provision, documentation, and controls, maintaining a strong SOX control environment and audit outcomes. 
  • Provide executive oversight on all enterprise-wide tax audits. 
  • Lead and develop a highperforming tax leadership team; set multiyear priorities, operating model, and resourcing; and drive capability across direct tax, indirect tax, international tax, tax technology, and tax accounting. 
  • Drive enterprise modernization of tax processes, data, and technology, delivering measurable improvements in cycle time, control quality, insight/forecast accuracy, and cost-to-serve. 
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the CFO, executive committee, corporate finance, corporate development, treasury, legal, and government affairs, enabling informed decisions on transactions, contracts, and strategic initiatives with clear tax implications and recommended paths. 
  • Lead the enterprise externally as needed with tax authorities, industry groups, and advisors; shape positions on emerging legislation and policy; and ensure consistent enterprise messaging and advocacy alignment. 
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required 

  • 10 years of progressive experience in tax administration, including significant enterprise-level or multi-jurisdictional leadership. 
  • 5 yrs of experience leading other people leaders. 
  • Bachelor's degree with focus in accounting, finance, business administration or related field, or willingness to attain a bachelor's degree within six years of start date. 
  • Demonstrated experience developing productive internal working relationships within finance and cross-divisionally, as well as relationships with various taxing authorities, other industry tax personnel, lobbyists and consultants. 
  • Deep expertise in corporate income tax financial reporting for income taxes, and tax planning. 
  • Demonstrated success driving enterprise transformation, tax technology programs, or largescale process modernization. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Minimumage of18. 
  • Mustbe authorized towork in the U.S. 

Preferred 

  • Master's degree and CP. 
  • Commercial airline experience.

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
