GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Pitzer College is seeking a Sustainability Engagement Coordinator to assist the College in fostering a culture of sustainability across campus and achieve its sustainability goals. Under the leadership of the Associate Director of the Robert Redford Conservancy and Sustainability, the Sustainability Engagement Coordinator helps provide leadership to the College's sustainability programs and develops, implements, and assesses efforts for the integration of sustainability throughout campus operations and programs. The position helps develop, enhance, and maintain environmental stewardship within the campus community and among its constituencies and helps develop strategies for resource conservation and efficiency, community engagement and outreach, and strategic planning for sustainability. The Sustainability Engagement Coordinator oversees the various programs, activities, and services of the Sustainability Robert Redford office and supervises a team of seasonal part-time student employees, as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reporting to the Associate Director of the Robert Redford Conservancy and Sustainability, the Sustainability Engagement Coordinator Director, works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
- Administer Sustainability programs, including management of student employees, budget, and operations.
- Sustainability checkout program
- Green Bikes and Sustainability intern programs.
- Campus dining hall compost program
- ReRoom surplus program.
- Electronic waste, hazardous waste, and ink/toner recycling program maintenance.
- 5C Sustainability events (Scripps Sustainability Fair, Powerdown and various Earth Week events (with The Claremont Colleges' sustainability programs).
- Student and Faculty sustainability workshops
- Hire, process personnel paperwork for, and directly supervise one or more seasonal part- time student employees as needed. Must complete the annual Sexual Harassment Prevention Training as required by the State of California.
- Collaborate with College faculty, staff, and students to develop a working model for the integration for sustainability concepts and practices into the operation of the College, including strategic partnerships with other campus offices and departments.
- Develop, implement, and oversee the College's sustainability projects, including objectives in a wide variety of sustainability topics (energy, water, transportation, purchasing, etc.).
- Analysis of data and preparation of annual greenhouse gas emissions inventory.
- Prepare reports as necessary for participation in organizations including Second Nature, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), Sustainability Tracking Rating and Assessment System (STARS), the Princeton Review, and others.
- Assist in the development of forecasts and reports for budget management and resource (energy, water, waste) consumption, including assisting with development and management of annual utilities operating budget.
- Serve on the Pitzer Sustainability Committee, reporting on energy and sustainability-related data, projects, programs, and progress
- Coordinate sustainability efforts and programming with local off-campus communities and organizations, including the City of Claremont and Sustainable Claremont.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the initial analysis of the viability of sustainability initiatives from internal and external sources.
- Respond to requests for campus and off-campus publications/media (or delegate as appropriate).
- Promote sustainability practices in facility programming, design, construction, and renovation, including equipment choices.
- Create and coordinate on- and off-campus communications efforts.
- Maintain Sustainability Pitzer website and social media accounts.
- Create and distribute awareness materials, including educational and outreach signage/stickers, event posters, and waste signage.
- Perform sustainability audits/inspections and maintain accurate project and program records.
- Assist with analysis for program budgets (ReRoom, checkout program, etc.).
- Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- The individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

- Demonstrated effectiveness and clarity of verbal and written communication with excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills to supervise, facilitate, motivate, and inspire a diverse group of employees, volunteers and stakeholders from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Must handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, tact, and a keen eye for detail.
- Able to operate computers with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook). Demonstrated understanding of the use of technology in assessing and improving sustainability and processes to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.
- Able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College in support of the College's strategic vision and the division's annual goals with a high standard of integrity and ethics.
- Able to utilize graphic design software (Adobe Suite) or the ability to learn within 6 months.
- Must have exceptional organizational, time management, and analytical skills to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail.
Experience/Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental studies or related technical/engineering discipline is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience with increasing responsibility in the areas of sustainability, student engagement, resource management, program implementation and management, event planning.

Work Schedule: This is a regular, full-time, staff position, working 40 hours per week, 10months per year off June and July. The regular schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary depending on the operational needs of the College or department, including evenings and weekends as required.
Compensation: Budgeted Salary Range: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
