Position Overview

Fusion HCR is seeking a Director, Applications Financial Systems to lead the strategy, optimization, and ongoing evolution of enterprise financial applications, with a primary focus on Workday Financials. This leader will partner closely with Accounting, Finance, Treasury, and executive stakeholders to drive scalable financial solutions that support business growth, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Workday Financials, enterprise application architecture, GAAP accounting principles, and financial reporting with strong leadership and executive communication skills. This individual will be responsible for owning the financial systems roadmap, leading a high-performing team, and continuing the organization's transformation away from manual and Excel-based reporting processes.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Systems Leadership
  • Lead the administration, optimization, and strategic roadmap for Workday Financials and related enterprise financial applications.
  • Oversee enhancements, upgrades, implementations, integrations, and ongoing maintenance activities.
  • Ensure financial systems support evolving business requirements while maintaining regulatory and audit compliance.
  • Drive improvements in financial reporting, automation, and operational efficiency.
Accounting & Finance Partnership
  • Serve as the primary technology partner to Accounting and Finance leadership teams.
  • Translate complex accounting and financial requirements into scalable system solutions.
  • Support GAAP-compliant processes, property accounting functions, and financial controls.
  • Partner with banking institutions and third-party financial vendors, including payment processors and treasury partners.
Reporting & Data Management
  • Lead initiatives to modernize enterprise reporting capabilities and reduce dependency on Excel-based processes.
  • Partner with Data, BI, and IT teams to develop scalable financial reporting solutions.
  • Ensure data integrity through validation, controls, and ongoing monitoring processes.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
  • Manage and mentor a team of 3–4 direct reports and supporting contractors.
  • Build strong relationships with executive stakeholders and business leaders across the organization.
  • Present recommendations, roadmaps, and system strategies to senior leadership and C-level audiences.
  • Manage vendor relationships, project budgets, timelines, and resource allocations.
Governance & Change Management
  • Establish and maintain application documentation, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee testing, change management, and release activities to ensure successful implementations.
  • Support internal and external audit requirements and drive continuous process improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in Business Systems, Financial Applications, ERP Management, or related disciplines.
  • 5+ years of experience implementing or managing Tier 1 or Tier 2 ERP solutions.
  • Strong expertise with Workday Financials administration and enterprise financial reporting.
  • Deep understanding of GAAP accounting principles and financial business processes.
  • Experience with General Ledger, Treasury, Budgeting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Purchasing, and Project Accounting.
  • Experience supporting banking integrations, payment gateways, Positive Pay, NACHA, and third-party payment processors.
  • Experience designing enterprise application architectures and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Strong understanding of Agile, Waterfall, and enterprise software development methodologies.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing direct reports and technical teams.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with executive stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
  • Real estate, REIT, property management, or similar industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting large-scale financial transformations and Workday Financial implementations.
  • Experience working with financial institutions such as JP Morgan, Bank of America, and other banking partners.
  • Background in enterprise reporting modernization initiatives and reducing manual reporting processes.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving Accounting, Finance, Treasury, and IT organizations.

The organization implemented Workday Financials approximately 18 months ago and continues to expand platform capabilities. Current priorities include:

  • Financial reporting modernization and migration away from Excel-based processes.
  • Tenant ledger reporting enhancements.
  • Tax reporting improvements.
  • Additional accounting process automation initiatives.
  • Continued expansion and optimization of Workday Financials functionality.
