Summary
The Director of Institutional Research directs the college's data operations, reporting infrastructures, and accreditation and assessment data. This midlevel leadership role ensures the accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of institutional data used for compliance reporting, accreditation, program reviews, and decision-making. The Director guides the work of the Institutional Research Analyst and collaborates with the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness. This position serves as the technical lead for the "back-end" of institutional data. This includes the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data, as well as the specification and definition of dashboards and reports. Coordinates the collection, analysis, validation, and submission of data for federal, state, and institutional reporting. Develops and delivers reports for faculty, staff and administrators to support decision-making. Serves as a member of several college committees related to data governance and enterprise reporting. Reports directly to the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads all workflows related to data extraction and transformation.
- Guides the design and development of operational, transactional, and strategic reports and dashboards.
- Ensures the department follows strict data validation guidelines and principles and all departmental standard operating procedures.
- Primary point of contact for IT and Registrar simple ticketing requests.
- Leads on the reporting and automation of all institutional compliance requirements.
- Coordinates the collection, analysis, validation, and submission of data for federal, state, and institutional reporting.
- Develops and delivers reports for faculty, staff and administrators to support decision-making.
- Contributes to the college's accreditation efforts, including the overall Middle State accreditation and any program-specific accreditation standards. This includes maintaining and supporting the periodic review of the evidence inventory to support the standards.
- Utilizes data visualization to help deliver reports that can assist the college with data-informed decision-making.
- Serves on college committees as assigned. (Assessment Council, Data Governance, and Enterprise IT)
- Manages the development and administration of online surveys using various survey tools.
- Works with the Executive Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness on research projects and data analysis.
- Ensures the IR Website contains relevant and useful content for the college community for decision-making and benchmarking.
- Safeguards confidential and sensitive data.
- Remains current with emerging trends in higher education and provides research recommendations.
- Creates and maintains documentation and an operations and procedures manual.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Education
- Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Statistics, or related field from an accredited institution.
Certifications
- Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)
Knowledge, skills and Abilities
- Minimum of three years' experience in institutional research or other hands-on experience with data collection, analysis and reporting.
- Minimum of three years' experience in higher education administration.
- Must be proficient in SQL and at least one statistical programming or data science tool.
- Familiarity with Banner or another Student Information System (SIS).
- Working knowledge of MS Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Information Science, Social Science, Statistics, or related field from an accredited institution.
- Five years' experience in institutional research or other hands-on experience with data collection, analysis and reporting.
- Knowledge of Enterprise Reporting tools such as Argos.
- Experience in data visualization tools (Tableau, PowerBI) in a production environment.
- Strong project management skills.
- Knowledge of institutional research best practices and issues in higher education.
- Knowledge of Ellucian Banner Student Information System or similar SIS.
Physical Demands
Ability to effectively communicate, perceive, and exchange information with colleagues and stakeholders.
Operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls using hands, arms, or adaptive equipment.
Ability to safely lift, transport, or move objects up to 15 lbs regularly and up to 25 lbs occasionally.
Vision capabilities sufficient to view screens, read printed materials, and observe work environments (with or without assistive devices).
