What is the difference between Director Signal Integrity Engineer vs Signal Integrity Engineer?

AspectDirector Signal Integrity EngineerSignal Integrity Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's/Master's in Electrical Engineering, often with leadership experienceBachelor's/Master's in Electrical Engineering or related field
Work EnvironmentLeadership role overseeing teams and projectsTechnical role focused on design and analysis
Industry UsageUsed in large tech, semiconductor, and electronics companiesCommon across similar industries for technical roles
ResponsibilitiesStrategic planning, team management, high-level design oversightSignal integrity analysis, testing, and troubleshooting

The main difference is that the Director Signal Integrity Engineer holds a leadership position with strategic responsibilities, while the Signal Integrity Engineer focuses on technical analysis and design. Both roles require similar technical credentials but differ in scope and level of responsibility.

What are some typical challenges faced by a Director Signal Integrity Engineer when leading cross-functional teams?

A Director Signal Integrity Engineer often encounters challenges in aligning cross-functional teams, such as hardware, PCB design, and validation groups, to ensure signal integrity requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle. Balancing technical depth with effective communication is crucial, as team members may have varying levels of expertise. Additionally, managing tight project timelines while troubleshooting complex signal issues and ensuring all teams adhere to industry standards can be demanding. Strong leadership and collaboration skills are essential to facilitate smooth coordination and drive successful project outcomes.

What does a Director Signal Integrity Engineer do?

A Director Signal Integrity Engineer leads teams responsible for ensuring the reliable and high-speed transmission of signals in electronic systems. They oversee the design, analysis, and testing of signal integrity for hardware components such as PCBs, connectors, and cables. Their work involves mitigating issues like noise, crosstalk, and electromagnetic interference to maintain signal quality. In addition to technical oversight, they often collaborate with cross-functional teams, set engineering standards, and guide the strategic direction of signal integrity initiatives.

Location: Ashburn, VA (Onsite)
About Accelevation
We build what the future runs on. Accelevation designs, manufactures, and installs the physical infrastructure that powers today's most advanced technologies. We've grown over 440% in the last 18 months because we take ownership, solve hard problems, and build with purpose. Join us to build the future.
Your Impact
As an Electronics Engineer, you'll design and develop high-performance mixed-signal hardware systems that power advanced technologies. You'll contribute across the full hardware development lifecycle; from schematic capture and high-speed PCB layout to validation, calibration, and manufacturing transition.
This role blends precision analog design, embedded systems development, and high-speed PCB expertise to ensure signal integrity, low-noise performance, and manufacturability. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to transform complex requirements into reliable, production-ready hardware solutions.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Designing and developing analog and digital circuits for mixed-signal systems
  • Creating and reviewing multilayer PCB layouts (4-8+ layers) with controlled impedance
  • Performing high-speed routing including differential pairs, length matching, and stack-up definition
  • Applying signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) best practices
  • Implementing EMI/EMC-aware layout and grounding strategies
  • Developing schematics, selecting components, and analyzing datasheets
  • Designing and integrating MCU-based embedded hardware systems
  • Performing hardware bring-up, validation, debugging, and troubleshooting
  • Developing test procedures and executing system calibration
  • Supporting prototype development and transition to manufacturing (DFM/DFT)
  • Documenting designs, revisions, and validation results in alignment with company standards

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 3-7 years of experience in analog and digital hardware design
  • Strong experience in high-speed multilayer PCB layout
  • Experience with controlled impedance routing and mixed-signal board design
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers
  • Experience designing MCU-based embedded systems
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in precision analog front-end design
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC compliance and regulatory considerations
  • Experience in system-level testing and calibration
  • Familiarity with industrial, power, or measurement systems

Core Competencies
  • Safety: Proactively fosters a culture of safety in our lab and production environments
  • Inclusion: Appreciates and respects individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and values
  • Speed: Operates with urgency while maintaining technical rigor and quality
  • Innovation: Continuously seeks to simplify, improve, and optimize designs and processes
  • Judgment: Exercises discretion and autonomy in solving complex technical challenges
  • Accountability: Holds self and others to high standards of performance, precision, and reliability

Benefits
  • Competitive salary and performance bonus
  • Paid time off
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Collaborative, high-energy workplace
