As a Senior Structural Engineer, you will independently apply, plan, design, direct, organize, execute, and recommend related activities of structural engineering projects within the organization.  

Your Primary Responsibilities will include
  • Serve as assistant project manager, engineer of record, or design lead on multi-disciplined transportation projects.
  • Technical structures design lead for all aspects of bridge design and plans preparation. 
  • Project experience to include a wide variety of bridge types ranging from medium-span concrete/steel bridges to more complex steel plate and steel box girder bridges. 
  • Directs the planning, design, and production of engineering drawings and specifications. 
  • Directs structural engineering investigations and planning work through the collection and analysis of data; performing of calculations, and evaluation of alternate solutions.
  • Train and mentor junior engineers.
  • Support construction phase of projects such as; problem-solving, responding to RFI’s, shop drawing review, etc.

What you'll need
  • Bachelor of Science from an ABET-accredited university in the field of Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer and/or Structural Engineer.
  • Experience using a variety of bridge design software which may include FB Multi-Pier, Leap Bridge Concrete, Smartbridge, LARSA, STAAD, MDX, Shoring Suite, Atlas, and the DOT suite of DOT Mathcad analysis worksheets.
  • Proficiency in Microstation, GEOPAK, OpenBridge Modeler, AutoCAD, and/or CADD platforms to produce transportation structure designs and plans.
  • Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through the application of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
  • 10 + years of relevant bridge design and plan production experience which may include; reinforced concrete bridges, prestressed/post-tensioned concrete bridges, steel plate and box girder bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, sign/signal structures, sound barrier walls, and other transportation-related structures. 
  • Construction specialty engineering experience is a plus
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented team player with the ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Experience with post-tensioning applications is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree (MSE/MSCE) in Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • PE and/or SE certification in Virginia or the ability to obtain Registration.
  • Familiarity with structural/bridge design process through the application of the DOT Structures Manual and DOT Construction Specifications.
