Job description

The Resident Care Director (RN) is the clinical leader for Assisted Living and Memory Care, responsible for coordinating and overseeing all aspects of resident care and services. This role manages nursing staff, ensures regulatory compliance, supports assessments and care planning, and partners with the Executive Director to maintain high-quality outcomes and resident/family satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

Lead, supervise, schedule, and develop the nursing/care team (RNs/LPNs, med techs, CNAs/PCAs) to ensure safe, timely, and compassionate care for all residents.

Oversee the resident assessment process, develop and update individualized service plans, and ensure appropriate levels of care in both Assisted Living and Memory Care.

Monitor clinical and functional status of residents, respond to changes in condition, and coordinate follow-up with physicians, home health, hospice, and other providers.

Ensure accurate medication management, including orders, administration, documentation, storage, and auditing per company policy and state regulations.

Maintain compliance with all applicable state regulations, community policies, and standards of practice related to assisted living and dementia care.

Participate in care conferences, quality assurance/performance improvement activities, and safety/risk management initiatives; track and act on key clinical indicators.

Provide education, coaching, and hands-on support to staff on resident care, infection control, dementia best practices, and emergency procedures.

Partner with the Executive Director on staffing plans, budgeting for the care department, and maintaining appropriate staff-to-resident ratios.

Support community tours and family meetings by explaining care services, levels of care, and clinical capabilities in a clear, resident-friendly manner.

Serve as a visible clinical resource and role model on the floor, working side-by-side with team members as needed.

Qualifications

Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Alabama.

Minimum of 3–5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in assisted living, memory care, long-term care, or related geriatric setting preferred.

Previous leadership, charge nurse, unit manager, or supervisor experience required.

Solid knowledge of assisted living regulations, resident assessment and care planning, and dementia care best practices.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with residents, families, staff, and outside providers.

Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Comfort with electronic health records, basic computer applications, and documentation requirements.

Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to urgent resident or staffing needs.
