Job description

DIRECTOR OF SALES & MARKETING
Build a disciplined growth engine for a market-leading facility intelligence platform
Full-Time | Remote | Limited Travel | Reports to the President / COO
Please note: Rock Oak Capital Partners is conducting this search on behalf of AkitaBox, one of its portfolio companies. Although the position is posted through Rock Oak's recruiting platform, the Director of Sales & Marketing will join AkitaBox and work directly with the AkitaBox leadership team.
About AkitaBox
AkitaBox helps organizations understand what they own, where it is located, what condition it is in, and where to invest next. Our cloud-based facility intelligence platform brings facility condition assessments, mobile data capture, asset and maintenance management, inspections, cost estimation, and capital planning into one connected system.
At the center of the AkitaBox story is what we believe is the leading purpose-built facility condition assessment solution in the market. AkitaBox pairs FCA with innovative, location-aware Capture capabilities-including AI-enabled workflows that help accelerate field data collection and convert observations into structured, actionable facility intelligence. Rather than ending in a static report, that information can remain current as work is completed, assets change and capital priorities evolve.
The growth opportunity is substantial. AkitaBox estimates that approximately 75% of engineering firms still rely on spreadsheets to track facility assets-leaving a large, underserved market for purpose-built digital workflows. AkitaBox supports customers across healthcare, higher education, K-12 education, government, commercial real estate and the AEC market, helping frontline teams manage buildings more effectively while giving executives stronger information for risk management and capital allocation.
The Opportunity
AkitaBox is entering an important next chapter. The company has an established product suite, a specialized market position and the backing of a long-term investment partner. The Director of Sales & Marketing will translate those strengths into a sharper market story, a healthier pipeline and a more repeatable commercial engine that supports sustained, profitable growth.
This is a highly visible, hands-on player/coach role with responsibility for a nine-person sales and marketing team. The Director will set commercial priorities, coach the team, stay close to customers and active opportunities, strengthen forecasting and pipeline discipline, and align marketing activity with the sales motion. Success will require both strategic thinking and a willingness to work directly in the details.
The role offers a meaningful opportunity to shape how AkitaBox positions its differentiated platform, reaches priority markets and converts demand into durable customer relationships. The Director will partner closely with company leadership and collaborate across product, customer success, implementation and operations.
What You Will Lead
  • Develop and execute an integrated sales and marketing strategy aligned with company growth objectives, priority markets and the AkitaBox value proposition.
  • Lead, coach and develop a nine-person sales and marketing team, establishing clear expectations, measurable goals, strong accountability and a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Operate as a true player/coach-remaining close to customers, key opportunities and the day-to-day realities of the sales process while building the team's capabilities.
  • Build a repeatable and scalable sales motion across prospecting, qualification, discovery, solution alignment, proposal development, negotiation, close and expansion.
  • Own pipeline health, sales metrics, quota attainment and quarterly and annual forecasting, using data and sound judgment to identify risks, opportunities and needed course corrections.
  • Guide marketing strategy and execution through the marketing team, aligning positioning, content, campaigns, events and demand generation with sales priorities and measurable pipeline contribution.
  • Strengthen AkitaBox's market narrative and help the team translate complex facility workflows into clear, differentiated business value for technical, operational and executive buyers.
  • Partner across product, customer success, implementation and leadership to bring customer insight into company decisions, improve handoffs and create a consistent end-to-end customer experience.
  • Contribute actively to go-to-market planning, resource decisions and company leadership discussions with clear analysis, candor and an enterprise-wide perspective.
  • Embrace and reinforce AkitaBox's culture, creating a collaborative, high-energy environment where people are accountable, supported and able to enjoy the work they do together.

The Ideal Candidate
AkitaBox is looking for a commercially minded builder who knows how to lead a B2B SaaS sales team while connecting marketing activity directly to pipeline and revenue. The strongest candidate will bring a track record of improving sales execution, developing people and creating the operating discipline needed for predictable growth. This individual will be a thoughtful listener, a credible coach and a low-ego leader who is highly driven and people smart.
Required Experience and Capabilities
  • At least five years of successful sales leadership experience in a B2B SaaS company, with direct responsibility for team performance, pipeline and revenue goals.
  • A demonstrated record of attaining or exceeding sales targets and improving go-to-market execution in a scaling SaaS environment.
  • Experience building or strengthening a repeatable, scalable sales process supported by disciplined qualification, pipeline management, forecasting and performance measurement.
  • Hands-on player/coach leadership experience, including recruiting, onboarding, training, mentoring and holding sales professionals accountable for results.
  • Experience leading a multi-role commercial team, such as account executives, sales development, account management, solutions consulting or sales operations.
  • Experience with mid-market and enterprise sales, including complex, multi-stakeholder buying processes.
  • The marketing breadth to lead and coach a marketing team, align demand generation and positioning with the sales strategy, and evaluate marketing activity based on business impact.
  • Experience translating complex products and workflows into a clear, differentiated customer value proposition and compelling executive-level story, supported by excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • A collaborative record of partnering effectively with product, customer success, implementation and company leadership.
  • Demonstrated applied use of AI to improve personal and team effectiveness, supported by concrete examples of workflow improvement, adoption, productivity gains or business impact-and sound judgment about accuracy, confidentiality and human oversight.
  • A humble, hungry and people-smart leadership style: low ego, high drive, strong listening skills, personal accountability, emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust across functions.

Relevant and Preferred Background
  • Experience in facilities technology or an adjacent market serving building owners, operators or AEC firms-particularly FCA, capital planning, asset management, CMMS, IWMS or EAM-is strongly preferred.
  • Experience selling into healthcare, education, government, commercial real estate or other institutional and multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed, investor-backed, founder-led, high-growth or otherwise entrepreneurial company.
  • Experience leading sales development and account management functions in addition to new-logo sales.
  • Experience with a SaaS offering that includes meaningful onboarding, implementation, professional services or partner-delivered components.
  • A bachelor's degree in business or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

Why Join AkitaBox?
  • Shape the commercial engine. Lead an integrated sales and marketing function, influence company strategy and directly affect pipeline quality, customer growth and business performance.
  • Build on a leading FCA foundation. AkitaBox combines facility condition assessment, innovative AI-enabled Capture, cost analysis and ongoing facility intelligence in a rare, tightly integrated workflow-with continued investment in product innovation and AI-enabled capabilities.
  • Pursue a large, under-digitized market. With an estimated 75% of engineering firms still relying on spreadsheets to track facility assets, AkitaBox has meaningful room to expand adoption and shape how the market works.
  • Lead a team with room to grow. Coach and develop a nine-person organization while strengthening the processes, tools and market approach that will support the company's next stage.
  • Work with committed ownership. AkitaBox has the support of a long-term investment partner and is building value over a multi-year horizon.
  • Join a culture that lives its values. AkitaBox combines high standards and ambitious goals with a collaborative, supportive environment where people genuinely enjoy working together-and make room for fun along the way. The company's values are active expectations for how the team works, makes decisions and treats one another.

Travel
  • This is a full-time, remote leadership position with limited travel expected for customer, team, partner and company engagement.
