Enterprise Application Services (EAS) is in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) division at North Carolina State University. EAS is responsible for the design, implementation, operation, enhancement & maintenance of the University's enterprise business applications. This includes: development, operation & maintenance of all enterprise administrative systems (Enterprise Document Mgmt, Financials, HR, Guest & Affiliate, MyPack Portal, Student Information, REPORTER, Enterprise Research Administration systems, etc.), configuration management, database administration and the maintenance, enhancement, and integration of these systems.

Essential Job Duties
As a member of the EAS Development team, this position will serve as a Mendix Sr. Enterprise Developer, as well as leading AI development and deployment initiatives within EAS.
Mendix Development:
  • Lead the design, build and/or implementation of practical, cost effective business solutions.
  • Complete detailed analysis and solutions development, regression testing, performance testing and quality assurance testing of Mendix applications.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation.
  • Assist customers with defining requirements, implementing solutions and testing.

AI Development and Deployment:
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and platforms to identify viable solutions for EAS and the broader NC State community; author and formalize a comprehensive strategic plan for embedding AI across software development, deployment, and support life cycles.
  • Represent EAS/OIT on collaborative campus IT committees and working groups, aligning AI initiatives and practices across university departments.
  • Provide guidance to other team members, across all EAS teams on the proper implementation of AI tools, workflow and security guidelines.

Technical Solutions Development
  • Interpret complex business processes and technological functions and provide input to management and customers on the appropriate resource and technology for automated solutions.
  • Ensure that application development efforts align closely with business requirements, from design to delivery, and that applications are user friendly, scalable, secure, and can be efficiently maintained once deployed.

Planning and Organizing
  • Maintain a strong knowledge of the SDLC at NC State University combined with outstanding organization and communication skills.
  • Maintain an understanding of software development project management methodologies and tools (Microsoft Project, QuickBase, SmartSheet, etc) and a thorough understanding of project expectations and procedures.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Master's degree and at least one year of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree with at least two years' of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience.
Other Required Qualifications
  • There or more years of developing applications using Mendix technologies.
  • Understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Agentic tool development within the SDLC process.
  • Experience using AI tools such as Gemini or Claude in software development environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical subjects including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong project management, organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage project work and support tasks concurrently.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and evaluative skills with an ability to resolve complex, difficult technical issues at the macro level.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of the project development life cycle, including but not limited to application analysis, development, testing, documentation, approval and post migration validation.
  • Attention to detail and ability to form strong relationships between team members, customers, and management is essential.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Functional knowledge of, or experience using NC State's Mendix applications.
  • Experience developing deploying applications using PHP.
  • Experience developing applications using shopping cart and catalog functions.
  • Experience developing applications for billing, equipment scheduling and CRM functions.
  • Knowledge of relevant technical standards such as OIT change management/source control, Section 508 (accessibility), NC Records Retention and Disposition Standards, NC IT audit standards and any applicable federal data protection standards (FERPA, HIPAA, ISO 27002, NIST 800-53, etc.) .
