The Opportunity
We are seeking a self-motivated, inspirational project management leader to lead our team of dynamic project delivery managers in the delivery of a ~$150M - $200M capital plan. This leader would be responsible for the strategic design, operational leadership, and coordination of engineering, design, and construction functions and initiatives for the Association. They would be responsible for a multi-disciplined team of highly skilled engineering, architectural, and construction professionals, delivering quality, timely and cost-effective renovation, infrastructure, critical infrastructure, real estate expansion, and minor construction projects. These projects are large, mission-critical and technically complex projects which can exceed $70M and includes pre-planning, design, construction, FFE installation, and commissioning of new and existing facilities (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, building control systems, and interior and architectural and engineering design). This leader will identify projects, makes project assignments, selects and provides leadership to internal and third-party suppliers, establishes integrated project plans and schedules, to ensure goals and objectives, included intended functionality are achieved. Manages key deliverables including cash flow, expenses, and schedule adherence. Maintains positive relationships with customers, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in the following location: San Antonio, TX. Relocation assistance is available for this position.
What you'll do:
  • Directs team (including employees and third-party suppliers) to design/develop, manage, and implement projects on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to defined plans and specifications and meets enterprise project standards and objectives.
  • Prepares and presents executive updates regarding project schedules including cost and timeline status, and risk mitigation.
  • Reviews project plans, drawings, and specifications, etc., to become knowledgeable of the scope of work, the area of potential challenges, opportunities for improvement in quality and/or value, cost or schedule.
  • Performs reviews, when needed to serve as owners' decision authority on options presented by managed service project managers.
  • Coordinates and oversees building engineering studies and facility condition assessments and is responsible for developing plans to address findings.
  • Provides leadership, oversight, technical expertise and guidance on complex problems, consultant agreements and studies for workplace and engineered systems as needed.
  • Works in partnership with procurement to review legal contracts and provide recommendations.
  • Creates policies and procedures including progress tracking procedures and planning tools.
  • Coordinates efforts between strategy, planning, and operations staff to ensure a smooth transition during project lifecycle.
  • Manages relocation services for enterprise efforts, to include moves, warehousing and minor construction efforts.
  • Routinely meets with stakeholders to monitor organizational and standard changes, to ensuring expectations are met.
  • Oversees interactions with regulatory agencies.
  • Provides training, as needed, for staff to promote effective performance and professional growth.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical), Architecture, Building Construction Management or a related field or a related field required; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 or more years of experience in any combination of building construction management, facility engineering, workplace renovation, engineered infrastructure projects managing architectural design and general contractor contract agreements, or project management.
  • 3 or more years of direct team lead or management experience required.
  • 4 or more years of experience developing and managing third party consultant, design, or general contractor contract agreements.
  • Subject-matter-expert level of relevant financial and business acumen.
  • Subject-matter-level knowledge of project management processes.
  • Subject-matter-expert level knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

    • AIA Certification or Professional Engineer (PE)

  • Strong verbal and graphic presentation and written communication skills.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced corporate environment.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $127,310.00 - $229,160.00.
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
