Job description

Overview
USA Health is Transforming Medicine along the Gulf Coast to care for the unique needs of our community. Our team of doctors, advanced care providers, nurses, therapists, and researchers provides the region's most advanced medicine at multiple facilities, campuses, clinics, and classrooms. We offer patients convenient access to innovative treatments and advancements that improve the health and overall well-being of our community.
Responsibilities
  • Manage direct preoperative and/or postoperative care of assigned patients that are scheduled for surgery
  • Perform all aspects of care within the nursing scope of practice per the Alabama Board of Nursing
  • Ensure all surgical patients are appropriately prepared and optimized for surgery
  • Appropriately recover all postoperative patients at the bedside per ASPANs guidelines and actively assist patient's in returning to their pre-anesthesia state
  • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, technologist, and other hospital personnel as necessary to provide quality patient care appropriately with all other members of the health care team
  • Support the daily operations of the OR and PACU schedules by assisting in patient throughput, efficiently recovering patients, patient assignments,
  • effective patient handoff report, and any other areas of improvement.
  • Supports surgical case add-ons through collaboration with staff assignments, house supervisor, and transfer center.
  • Ensures any patient needing a higher level of care outside of our facility is optimized for transfer and collaborates with EMS, USA Health's transfer center or outside facility to provide a safe and timely transfer of patient to other facility
  • Provide patients and family members or caretakers with information about home recovery and any limitations or restrictions to follow
  • Effectively care for any nonsurgical patient that is boarded in PACU and provide the same level of care as the targeted unit would
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment

  • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
  • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
  • Timely, consistent, and accurate handoffs to subsequent caregivers
  • Works efficiently and professionally with positive attitude with periop team
  • Other duties as assigned/required.
  • Participates on Shared Governance as assigned.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of ICARE process as assigned.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the State of Alabama Required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
  • ACLS - Advanaced Cardiovascular Life Support within 60 Days Required
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 60 Days Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
