Today, we power the industry's most essential operating system, serving owners and residents worldwide through a comprehensive suite of intelligent leasing, payment, and communication tools powered by cutting-edge AI. Director of Engineering Payments provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for software engineering teams responsible for Entrata’s payments platform and money-movement capabilities. This role establishes the technical strategy and execution roadmap for secure, scalable, and highly available payment experiences across card, ACH, disbursement, ledger, settlement, reconciliation, and related financial workflows. Partnering closely with Product, Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance, Security, and external payment partners, this leader ensures solutions meet customer needs, regulatory and network requirements, and broader business objectives while remaining accountable for platform reliability, transaction integrity, financial accuracy, and risk reduction.

Reponsibilites
  • Direct the activities of multiple integrated software engineering teams, primarily through lower management levels.

  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of software solutions driving enterprise-level transformation products.

  • Establish operational objectives, strategic plans, and technical design roadmaps for the engineering department aligned with long-term company goals.

  • Lead the architectural strategy and evolution of secure, resilient, and highly available cloud-native environments using technologies like AWS, PostgreSQL, and Node.js.

  • Direct the delivery of payment and money-movement capabilities, including payment acceptance, processing, disbursement, ledgering, settlement, reconciliation, refunds, returns, disputes, and exception handling.

  • Ensure platform architecture and operational practices support idempotent transaction processing, ledger integrity, auditability, observability, disaster recovery, and compliance with PCI DSS, NACHA rules, EI3PA, data privacy standards, and internal financial controls.

  • Partner across departments (Product, Finance, Treasury, Risk, Compliance, Security) and with external processors and banking partners to translate payment-network requirements into technical solutions.

  • Manage departmental budget accountability, strategic planning cycles, human resource planning, recruitment, and team performance.

  • Reconcile multiple stakeholder views and negotiate matters of significance to drive business results and maintain professional stakeholder alignment.

  • Establish and monitor key payment engineering metrics, including authorization and failure rates, processing latency, settlement accuracy, exception volumes, platform availability, and incident recovery times.

  • Leverage company-approved GenAI tools as a "Human-in-the-Loop" to automate routine tasks while maintaining data governance, PII security, and factual accuracy

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 10 years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a significant engineering leadership capacity.

  • 3 to 5 years of experience working with payment processing, money movement, fintech, banking technology, or other transaction-intensive financial systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise software architecture and cloud infrastructure, including Node.js, React, and AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM, PostgreSQL).

  • Deep understanding of card and ACH processing, payment gateways/processors, tokenization, authorization, settlement, reconciliation, refunds, returns, disputes, chargebacks, and financial ledgers.

  • Demonstrable experience leading teams that are leveraging AI-powered development tools (e.g., Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) for enhanced code generation, refactoring, debugging assistance, and overall development efficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering organizations responsible for high-volume financial platforms requiring transaction integrity, security, auditability, regulatory compliance (PCI, EI3PA, NACHA), and disciplined incident management.

  • Proven track record managing departmental budgets, strategic planning cycles, and recruiting/staffing technical teams.

  • Exceptional negotiation and influence skills with senior management and executive leadership.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialized expertise in database management and secure coding practices focused on Money Movement, Credit Risk, and Fraud prevention.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in prompt engineering and GenAI integration, with experience auditing AI outputs for brand alignment and accuracy while safeguarding proprietary data.

  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale technical transformations within fast-paced, high-stress, or heavily regulated environments.
