How You Will Make An Impact
The Director, Operational Excellence, works with functional leaders and teams to identify opportunities for Halozyme to apply lean principles and continuous improvement tools and techniques to improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of our processes and procedures. The focus can encompass all functions at Halozyme, with the agreement and collaboration of the department leader. Core activities include participating in high-impact project teams and leading operational excellence assessments and discussions aimed at identifying opportunities to improve our operational processes and procedures. The team may also assess approaches to improve speed and clarity of team decision making, and opportunities for operational improvements to increase quality, speed, and cost while assuring we deliver with high quality for our customers and patients.
In This Role, You’ll Have The Opportunity To

  • Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of Operational Excellence (OE) principles and practices to lead a variety of projects aimed at driving operational transformation and improvement across multiple functions.
  • Challenge the status quo and identify opportunities for improvement, chart the course for improvement actions, and take accountability for rigorous execution and delivery of improvement projects.
  • Collaborate and lead constructive debates with teams to prioritize opportunities, manage on-going projects, discuss challenging issues, and solve problems.
  • Develop and contribute to the advancement of the overall OE strategy and implementation of tools and systems that support continuous process improvement, enhance daily management systems, and drive culture change.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and day-to-day OE coaching to personnel to achieve expected business results.
  • Design and publish performance management reports and OE updates for multiple audiences, including executive level updates, team communications, and broad program updates for all Halozyme staff.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong cross-functional relationships and contribute to our positive environment while influencing teams across the corporation to adopt a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Build/improve business processes related to Operational Excellence.
  • Author Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) describing essential functions.
  • Comply with established company policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety and environmental standards, and current Good Manufacturing Practices
To Succeed In This Role, You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, life sciences, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in Operational Excellence with extensive knowledge of LEAN, Six Sigma, and other Operational Excellence tools
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered
  • Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
  • Experience in Medical Device and Pharmaceutical industry preferred.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and MS Office.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence and manage in a matrixed environment.
  • Familiarity with GMP, FDA guidelines, and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Experience quantifying business benefit on operational excellence initiatives.
  • Leadership: Demonstrates ability to inspire, guide, and develop teams to achieve continuous improvement and organizational goals.
  • Strategic Thinking: Applies long-term vision and planning to align OE projects with business objectives and prepare the organization for future growth.
  • Risk Identification & Mitigation: Proactively identifies potential risks and implements effective mitigation strategies to ensure project success.

The most likely base pay range for this position is $180K - $252K per year. Several factors, such as experience, tenure, skills, and particular business needs, will determine an individual’s exact level of compensation. Base salary is only one element of employee compensation at Halozyme. Total compensation could include bonuses, sales incentives, and equity awards.
