Job description

Software Engineering Manager

Company:

The Boeing Company is looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) organization in Everett, WA.

The team supports two cloud service infrastructure platforms. The first is BCA's public-facing global infrastructure, which facilitates air-to-ground communication between multiple Boeing business unit applications and airline operators. The second is Boeing's secure infrastructure that stores, receives, and distributes aircraft software. Additionally, the team is responsible for all aircraft loadable software processes and standards.

The ideal candidate will have strong people management skills while providing technical oversight to engineering employees supporting the software lifecycle. Management duties will span all phases of the software development lifecycle, including oversight of requirements, architecture/design, quality assurance, and service support. The candidate will develop and execute integrated departmental plans, policies, and procedures, and provide input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, and objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a software engineering team responsible for the software development life cycle, evaluating team performance and output quality

  • Work and coordinate with global technical teams and 3rd-party partners

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliverables, as well as identify opportunities and mitigate risk

  • Oversee the design, coding, testing, and deployment of software solutions

  • Ensure adherence to best practices, coding standards, and QA processes

  • Mentor and train team members, providing technical guidance

  • Monitor and control cost, schedules, and mitigations related to development

  • Prepare and report on integrated project progress, addressing issues or barriers

  • Align with agile development processes, including sprint and related planning

  • Ensure software solutions are scalable, secure, and perform optimally

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to workonsiteat one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelors Degree

  • This position requires, to meet U.S. export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.62 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

  • 3+ years of experience in software development life cycles, configuration management and best agile software engineering practices

  • External candidates - must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience)

  • Internal candidates - Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader,tempmanager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course"Exploring Leadership."

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 3+ years of experience in cross-functional leadership, collaborative problem solving, building lasting relationships & proficiency in written and verbal communication

  • 3+ years of experience managing or leading teams in a software engineering discipline

  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

  • Experience in software development using Java, JavaScript, and Node.JS

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies

  • 2+ years of experience as technical manager of a product deployment team

  • Familiarity with the use of AI in software development practices

  • Familiar with Boeing processes and procedures
