We are looking for a Director of Software Development in Austin, TX, who will lead Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and develop innovative Process Control software and firmware that are part of the award winning DeltaV Distributed Control System, our flagship distributed process control system used by top companies in chemical, life sciences and energy industries.
This role requires a strategic leader with deep expertise in software engineering and large-scale software delivery. The ideal leader has a strong foundation in Agile principles and the ability to drive successful products at-scale, in order to oversee the end-to-end development process and ensure technical excellence, organizational efficiency, and cross-team collaboration, resulting in high-quality delivery. In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Lead and oversee the site’s software and firmware development teams, encouraging a culture of innovation and delivery
  • Contribute to the increase in the department’s value delivery through a combination of processes, personnel, and automation that drives improved productivity in the development of our products
  • Participate in the definition of technical vision, strategy and roadmap, then implement them
  • Ensure high performance and accountability through leading a multi-functional team comprising software development managers and ART leadership
  • Cultivate an innovative environment that encourages openness, collaboration and professional growth
  • Work with other department leaders to optimize team and cross-site performance
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and define outstanding processes
  • Stay knowledgeable about tools, methods, relevant trends and technologies for software and firmware development

For This Role, You Will Need:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related STEM field, plus at least 10 years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in software or firmware development
  • Proven experience leading multiple development teams in a large-scale software/hardware environment
  • A background in understanding the technologies, tools, and processes in development, testing and maintenance of software systems
  • Demonstrated abilities in leading and driving performance
  • Excellent leadership, communication and partner management skills
  • Strong background in Agile software development methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, or other frameworks)
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours to collaborate with both local and remote sites
  • Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship now or in the future
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
  • Knowledge or experience in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or other large-scale Agile frameworks
  • Deep understanding of software architecture, embedded firmware development, DevOps, and CI/CD standard processes.
  • Experience with AI/ML, IoT or edge computing in process control applications
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity and compliance in industrial software
  • Experience with industrial automation products or technologies
