Role Overview
An opportunity is available for a Director of Application Development to lead a seasoned development team through a significant platform modernization and the delivery of a next-generation cloud-native application. This role is suited for a hands-on engineering leader who will manage the team, make key technical decisions, and work closely with product teams. The position involves guiding a mature, high-performing team, rather than initiating a turnaround. The primary challenge is to maintain execution, alignment, and momentum while navigating this modernization effort.
Key Responsibilities
  • * Own project scheduling, resource assignment, and the timely delivery of development deliverables.
  • Lead and manage a development team composed of software engineers and potentially QA personnel.
  • Dedicate approximately 75% of time to management activities and 25% to engaging with the code to understand team activities.
  • Coach and facilitate the professional development of engineering staff, including setting growth plans and building team skills.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to Product leadership, balancing business objectives, technical realities, and delivery commitments.
  • Manage the dynamic between engineering and product teams to ensure collaborative and effective outcomes.
  • Define, track, and act on development metrics to improve team performance, quality, and throughput.
  • Support the organization's AI roadmap by evaluating where AI can create business value and guiding its implementation.
  • Ensure effective software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices are followed consistently.
Required Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in a people management role leading software development teams.
Technical Skills: Background in .NET and exposure to AI concepts and their application in development.
Professional Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, coach, and retain engineering talent.
  • Experience leading engineering teams within a SaaS software organization.
  • Strong understanding of modern software development practices and Agile methodologies.
