Senior Director of Development

The Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas is the Catholic Church in Northeast Kansas: Growing as Disciples of Jesus; Making Disciples for Jesus. The Archdiocese is seeking a Senior Director of Development. The Senior Director provides strategic leadership to advance the long-term sustainability and comprehensive development efforts of the Archdiocese and its ministries. Rooted in the evangelical mission of the Church, this role ensures the thoughtful planning and effective execution of development initiatives, fostering a spirit of Christian stewardship among the faithful. The position is full-time based on 40 hours per week, benefits eligible and working primarily onsite at the Chancery office with frequent meetings to build relationships and support with major donors to archdiocesan ministries.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain demonstrably strong relationships with major donors to the archdiocese.
  • Reflecting ethical fundraising practices, establish and implement a comprehensive, multi-year development strategy ensuring alignment with the Archbishop's pastoral vision.
  • Provide overall direction for all development programs, functions and initiatives. Establish and maintain policies and procedures which respect the privacy and confidentiality of the donor relationship.
  • Lead the strategic development and production of all fundraising and donor engagement, systems, materials for proposals, presentations and correspondence, preparing annual reports including money collected and allocated cost of development activities, and impact of allocated funds.
  • Oversee and manage the Development Office budget, ensuring accurate planning, monitoring, and stewardship of financial resources.
  • Manage staff and oversee performance management processes to support accountability, professional growth, and effective team performance.

  • Advanced knowledge regarding financial, accounting and tax principles and ability to apply them to an individual's financial situation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Marketing, Business Administration, Non-Profit Administration or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years relevant work experience in professional management, planning and administering development programs.
  • Minimum ten (10) years' experience in managing staff and volunteer groups.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred.
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
  • Previous experience with Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge is required, previous experience with other donor database software is helpful.ย
