CLIENT/DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) is a professional medical society dedicated to advancing the knowledge and practice of allergy, asthma and immunology. With more than 7,000 members worldwide, AAAAI supports education, research, clinical care and advocacy to improve patient outcomes. Its work includes publishing leading scientific journals, hosting an annual scientific meeting, providing continuing education, advocating for issues impacting physician practice, funding research through its Foundation and offering resources and tools for both clinicians and the public.
The Practice & Policy Division facilitates volunteer physician leadership efforts to support AAAAI members through practice management resources and by advocacy and education outreach to payers, federal and state regulatory agencies, collaboration with other interested organizations, and regulatory and legislative authorities at the state and national level
GENERAL SUMMARY
Provides strategic leadership for the development and execution of advocacy and public policy initiatives that advance the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology's (AAAAI) strategic plan and organizational priorities. Partners with the Board of Directors and Advocacy Committee leadership to identify and implement effective strategies for achieving advocacy and policy objectives. Oversees the direction, management, and coordination of the staff team responsible for implementing these initiatives, ensuring alignment and efficient execution of priorities. Serves as a member of the senior leadership team, contributing to the overall management and success of the AAAAI.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with the appropriate volunteers, advocacy partners and staff to develop and oversee a public policy strategy for the AAAAI that supports the strategic objectives of the association, advocating for allergy/immunology services that result in optimal patient care and improved quality of life, and for the appropriate reimbursement for these services.
  • Serve as liaison to the Practice & Policy Division of the AAAAI Board of Directors, assisting in the identification and directing staff functions to ensure achievement of Division goals and objectives, and providing and/or managing direct administrative support with regard to meetings, conference calls, minutes, and reports to the Board.
  • Serve as primary liaison to the Advocacy Committee including directing staff functions to ensure achievement of Committee goals and objectives, and providing and/or managing direct administrative support with regard to meetings, conference calls, minutes, and reports as necessary.
  • Represent the AAAAI in various coalition and partnership efforts with related organizations.
  • Provide direction and leadership to Practice & Policy staff team members, monitoring interactions among individual members to ensure efficient use of resources and unity of effort.
  • Provide regular performance evaluations of directly supervised team members with rewards and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Serve as liaison to various assigned committees within the AAAAI, coordinating activities and providing support as needed to achieve objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

AMOUNT OF TRAVEL REQUIRED: Approximately 5-6 weeks per year; Attendance at the AAAAI Annual Meeting is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This is a full-time position located in our office in downtown Milwaukee, WI and a minimum of two-days onsite in the office (including Wednesday as a required all-staff in-office day) are a requirement of the role.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 5-7 years of association management, advocacy/public policy program development and supervisory experience; outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills; computer proficiency; Bachelor's degree.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Early morning, evening and weekend hours may be required to meet client needs.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimal lifting required.
