The Northwest Abortion Access Fund (NWAAF) is an abortion fund serving Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska. Trained, compassionate volunteer advocates run our toll-free helpline. We help people pay for their abortion care by sending funding directly to the clinic or to providers of abortion pills. We also help people get to and from the clinic and ensure those traveling for care have a safe place to stay. We are a mission-driven organization guided by values. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit and a member of the National Network of Abortion Funds (NNAF), a membership organization of over 95 funds across the United States.
Purpose: The Development & Operations Associate is an entry-level position. It supports NWAAF's development and operations by maintaining donation records, managing day-to-day administrative tasks, and providing timely responses to stakeholder inquiries. This position is Portland-based and provides direct support to the organization's main office by managing incoming mail and storage inventory. This role blends precise routine tasks with compassionate service to all stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will grow over time as the Associate becomes familiar with the role and duties. Listed below are the responsibilities after a year on the job.
Development Support 25%
In collaboration with and under the guidance of the Director of Development, and following established procedures:
  • Track and enter donations (including stock donations) in the organization's Customer
  • Relationship Management (Light Green Light).
  • Respond to donor inquiries, update records, and process changes within established
  • procedures.
  • Manage payment processing and support the bookkeeper and Director of Operations with donation reconciliation.
  • Write and send thank-you notes to major donors and grantors.
  • Support specific development campaigns (such as Fund-A-Thon) with planning and logistics.
Operations Support 25%
In collaboration with the Director of Operations, and following established procedures:
  • Collect, triage, and process incoming mail.
  • Maintain the organization's online store, including packing and shipping of orders, and manage inventory/storage access.
  • Organize, curate, and maintain the shared organization's file drives.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to committee meetings.
  • Support the organization in emergent needs.
Community Engagement 20%
Serve as a connector for volunteers and community inquiries.
  • Monitor and redirect voicemails for Helpline Line 4 (admin/fundraising).
  • Coordinate volunteers and logistical support for administrative and fundraising tasks.
  • Receive, reassign, and respond to incoming emails in administration inboxes following procedures and templates.
Program & Compliance Support 15%
In collaboration with the Director of Operations, and following established procedures to support internal operations and ensure compliance.
  • Receive, redact sensitive information, and file payment vouchers received from partner providers.
  • Monitor and redirect messages from Helpline Line 2 (program line).
  • Assist in preparing and submitting state/regional reports.
  • Track time-sensitive compliance tasks and notify leadership.
Communications 15%
In collaboration with and under the guidance of the Director of Development, contribute to
NWAAF's visibility and engagement.
  • Perform basic website maintenance.
  • Collaborate and post content on NWAAF's social media platforms.
  • Monitor social media engagement (comments, messages, shares, and mentions) and respond or escalate as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong alignment with NWAAF's mission and values, demonstrating a deep commitment to
    social justice and inclusivity.
  • Experience in administration or relevant life experiences.
  • Willingness to learn key software tools (such as Google Suite, Little Green Light, Stripe,
    Bill, and others).
  • Able to lift 30 lbs.
  • Reliable access to a smartphone, computer, and internet (support provided as needed).
  • Ability to independently travel in Portland, OR, between multiple locations for weekly tasks.
  • Experience working remotely using digital tools, databases, and collaboration platforms.

Compensation
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an hourly pay range of $36 to $42, depending on experience and qualifications. Employees in this role are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws. Compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, skills, and alignment with the position's responsibilities. NWAAF is committed to providing transparent and equitable compensation and does not negotiate outside of the stated pay range.
