Job description

Title: Manager of Investment Operations
Location: NYC (hybrid, 3 days/week in office, 2 days remote)
Salary: $165,000 to $180,000
Reporting to:Chief Investment Officer

THE POSITION
The Freedom Together Foundation seeks a Manager of Investment Operations who will be responsible for managing the operational infrastructure supporting the Foundation's investment portfolio. This role oversees investment transactions, documentation, reporting processes, compliance activities, and data management systems.
The Director of Investment Operations serves as the primary steward of the Investment Office's operational controls and ensures that investment activities are executed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Investment Operations
  • Manage daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cash management activities
  • Coordinate capital calls, distributions, subscriptions, and redemptions
  • Facilitate payment of management fees and partnership expenses
  • Maintain investment transaction records and supporting documentation
  • Reconcile investment activity with custodians and service providers

Documentation and Compliance
  • Manage account opening and closing processes
  • Maintain legal documentation and investment records
  • Coordinate investor questionnaires, tax forms, and compliance-related filings
  • Support annual audits and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Maintain appropriate controls surrounding investment transactions and wire activity

Reporting and Data Management
  • Oversee investment data management systems and reporting processes
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of portfolio information
  • Coordinate data requests from auditors, consultants, and other stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reporting capabilities

Vendor and Service Provider Management
  • Coordinate operational interactions with investment consultants, custodians, consultants, and other external service providers
  • Monitor service quality and operational effectiveness
  • Assist in evaluating operational vendors and technology solutions

QUALIFICATIONS, COMPETENCIES, AND ATTRIBUTES
While no one candidate will embody all the qualifications below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:
  • Bachelors degree required
  • 7-10 years of investment operations experience
  • Experience supporting institutional portfolios
  • Knowledge of private market operations, custodians, and accounting
  • Experience preparing documents for Investment Committee meetings & Board Reports
  • Must be detailed oriented and have strong analytical skills
  • High level of emotional intelligence, discretion, sound judgment, and low ego
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a track record of entrepreneurial, adaptive approaches to complex problems
  • A "no task too small" mindset, with humility, initiative, and a collaborative spirit
  • A curious, proactive learner who brings positivity and resilience to changing circumstances
  • Proficient with Google Suite and able to learn other programs to support the work
  • A strong alignment with the foundation's mission and values
  • Enthusiasm to build a culture rooted in shared values that supports staff to bring their best selves to the work

SALARY & BENEFITS
This is a full-time, exempt position and the annualized salary range is$165,000 to $180,000. Freedom Together offers an extensive and generous benefits package including health insurance (with 100% of the premiums paid for employees, spouses, domestic partners, and qualified family members), paid time off (including last week of the year), 401(k) retirement plan with 12% employer contribution, and access to an inclusive family building reimbursement plan. Freedom Together provides up to $5,000 annually for professional development and the ability to recommend an annual grant to the nonprofit of your choice.
