Job description

Position: Director of Accounting
Work site: Hybrid
Industry: Fintech / Lending
Compensation: $175K – $225K or commensurate with experience
Partnered through: FocusPoint Talent Solutions

FocusPoint has been retained by a high-growth client in the financial services sector to recruit a Director of Accounting. This strategic leadership role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will oversee the accounting function while playing a pivotal role in shaping financial strategy.

We are seeking an experienced, versatile professional with strong technical expertise, business judgment, and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, organized, collaborative, and comfortable managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and analysis.
  • Manage treasury functions, including funding and capital requirements.
  • Partner with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate accounting conclusions, particularly around revenue recognition.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during annual audits and technical accounting reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting regulations, standards, and internal policies.
  • Deliver recurring and ad-hoc reporting to executive leadership, investors, and capital partners.
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends, and present actionable insights to senior management and the Board.
  • Evaluate and enhance internal accounting processes, systems, and tools to support growth objectives.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and executive team to develop long-term financial strategies and drive profitability.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in public and/or private accounting/finance.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to manage audits, revenue recognition, and treasury functions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data effectively.
  • Track record of improving processes, implementing systems, and supporting organizational growth.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across departments.

Why Candidates Should Join

  • Growth: The company is expanding into new verticals and lines of business. This role blends finance and accounting with opportunities to take on CFO-level responsibilities over time — ideal for someone looking to grow into a more senior finance leadership position.
  • Team Environment: Work with a diverse team focused on tech innovation, commercial expansion, and robust risk and compliance practices. The CFO emphasizes autonomy and goal-oriented leadership, creating a supportive and empowering environment.
  • Financial Backing: While not yet profitable, the company has recently raised significant funding and maintains strong cash reserves, providing stability and resources for growth.
  • Equity Potential: Equity opportunities are available as a reward for performance and tenure.
  • Work-Life Balance: Hybrid work model with flexibility, requiring in-office presence only three days per week.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary in the range of $175K – $225K or commensurate with experience.
  • Equity potential after one year of employment.
  • Comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid schedule with flexibility.
