Office:: Office of Communications and Marketing

Reports to: Vice President for College Advancement

Work Period: 12-month

Hours: Full-time

General Summary: Leads the development and execution of compelling, mission-aligned stories that elevate Agnes Scott College's brand and engage key audiences. Reporting to the vice president for College Advancement, this role oversees the creation of audience-centered content across digital, print and multimedia platforms.

This position serves as a senior content strategist and lead storyteller within the Office of Communications and Marketing. The director collaborates across campus to identify meaningful stories, translate complex topics into accessible narratives and ensure that content is audience-centered, authentic and aligned with institutional priorities.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Develops and executes strategic storytelling initiatives aligned with institutional priorities and brand positioning including drafting speeches, op-eds, strategic communications and other high-level messaging in support of the president's vision and elevating college-wide priorities with particular focus on enrollment strategy.
  2. Oversees production of key publications, including Agnes Scott The Magazine (in collaboration with the Director of Advancement Communications).
  3. Identify, research and write compelling stories highlighting students, faculty, alumnae and institutional impact for web, social, email, print and signature storytelling projects that communicate and attract prospective students and their supporters.
  4. Develops strategy in collaboration with the senior leadership team on preparing, writing and pitching stories to local, regional and national media outlets in alignment with institutional priorities. Draft and distribute news releases and media advisories.
  5. Serves as a primary media contact, coordinating interviews and preparing faculty and administrators for media engagement.
  6. Monitors all media coverage and identify opportunities to elevate Agnes Scott's visibility and thought leadership and raise the profile of the college in Atlanta and beyond.
  7. Establishes and upholds editorial standards that prioritize clarity, inclusivity and audience engagement.
  8. Partners with campus stakeholders to surface and develop story opportunities that elevate and align to brand.
  9. Collaborates with colleagues in enrollment, advancement and academic divisions to align storytelling with strategic goals.
  10. Monitors content performance and engagement data to inform future storytelling approaches.
  11. Represents the Office of Communications and Marketing in meetings and working groups as assigned.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field of study. Experience working in higher education is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in marketing and communications with a focus on communications.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated creativity, imagination, critical thinking, creativity and talent in message development, content creation and media relations.
  • Impeccable communication skills and ability to articulate leadership vision into compelling messages for multiple audiences.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to identify short- and long-range goals and contribute to effective and measurable outcomes.
  • Considerable experience working in highly collaborative environments requiring interpersonal communication competence, initiative, active listening and emotional intelligence.
  • Considerable experience in coordinating and developing communications across a variety of marketing channels.
  • Considerable experience as a communications or marketing professional or other related field of work.
  • Experience in developing relationships with media.
  • Some experience in a variety of integrated marketing and communication mediums with the ability to plan, manage, produce and direct comprehensive strategies that incorporate print, digital and video communication to lead brand messaging.

  • Travel and work in off-campus settings may be required.
  • Irregular hours, evenings or weekends are routinely required.
