Job description

Director of Brand Marketing

Summary:
Danessa Myricks Beauty is one of the fastest-growing independent beauty brands, built on the belief that makeup is a tool for creativity, confidence, and limitless self-expression. Founded by makeup artist and innovator Danessa Myricks, the brand has earned a passionate following among professional artists, beauty enthusiasts, creators, and retailers through breakthrough innovation, education, and inclusive product development.

We are seeking a strategic, entrepreneurial, and commercially-minded Director of Brand Marketing to lead the next phase of growth for the brand. The Director of Brand Marketing will lead brand strategy, innovation planning, go-to-market execution, and integrated marketing initiatives that drive both cultural relevance and business performance.

This individual will be responsible for defining how Danessa Myricks Beauty shows up in the market—from product launches and retail activations to founder storytelling, content strategy, consumer engagement, and omnichannel marketing. They will serve as a key business leader, partnering cross-functionally to translate consumer insights and brand vision into breakthrough marketing programs that drive awareness, trial, loyalty, and revenue.

The ideal candidate combines strategic brand thinking with operational excellence and a deep understanding of today's beauty consumer. They are equally comfortable building long-term brand equity and delivering short-term business results.

Key Responsibilities:
Brand Strategy & Growth Leadership:
  • Lead development of annual and long-range brand strategies that drive sustainable growth and strengthen brand equity.
  • Own brand planning, forecasting, budgeting, and key business objectives across the portfolio.
  • Define strategic priorities and growth opportunities based on consumer insights, category trends, competitive intelligence, and business performance.
  • Serve as a steward of the Danessa Myricks Beauty brand, ensuring consistency across all consumer touchpoints.

Integrated Marketing & Omnichannel Strategy:
  • Develop and execute integrated 360° marketing strategies that drive awareness, engagement, conversion, and loyalty.
  • Lead omnichannel planning across retail, e-commerce, social, influencer, PR, experiential, education, and paid media.
  • Ensure all marketing initiatives are aligned with business objectives and deliver measurable commercial impact.
  • Partner closely with Digital, Social, Creative, PR, and Sales teams to ensure a seamless consumer experience.

Innovation & Product Launch Leadership:
  • Partner with Product Development to shape innovation strategy and support the long-term product pipeline.
  • Lead consumer positioning, messaging, launch strategy, and commercialization plans for all new product introductions.
  • Develop comprehensive go-to-market plans that drive excitement, education, and sell-through across channels.
  • Ensure product stories clearly communicate innovation, artistry benefits, and consumer relevance.
  • Lead the successful commercialization of a large portfolio of annual product launches.

Founder-Led Brand Building:
  • Partner closely with founder Danessa Myricks to amplify her voice, vision, artistry, and industry leadership.
  • Develop marketing programs that leverage founder credibility and authenticity to strengthen brand affinity.
  • Create opportunities for founder storytelling across channels.

Retail & Commercial Marketing:
  • Partner with Sales and Retail Marketing teams to create best-in-class retail programs and shopper marketing initiatives.
  • Partner with Sales and Retail Marketing to develop in-store and online retail experiences that drive awareness, conversion, and consumer engagement.
  • Build strong retailer partnerships and support key strategic accounts.
  • Collaborate on retailer-exclusive programs, promotional strategies, and retail media opportunities.

Content & Creative Leadership:
  • Lead development of content strategies that bring the brand to life through artistry, education, innovation, and community.
  • Partner with Creative teams to ensure all brand communications are visually compelling, culturally relevant, and distinctly Danessa Myricks Beauty.
  • Guide development of campaign concepts, launch assets, educational content, retail creative, and digital experiences.
  • Ensure consistent brand storytelling across owned, earned, and paid channels.

Consumer & Community Insights:
  • Champion a consumer-first mindset across the organization.
  • Leverage qualitative and quantitative insights to identify opportunities for growth and innovation.
  • Monitor beauty, culture, social, and creator trends to keep the brand at the forefront of the industry.
  • Translate consumer feedback into actionable business recommendations.

Performance & Analytics:
  • Establish clear KPIs and measurement frameworks across marketing initiatives.
  • Analyze campaign effectiveness and optimize investments based on performance insights.
  • Partner with Finance and Leadership teams on forecasting, budget management, and ROI evaluation.
  • Build a culture of accountability, experimentation, and continuous improvement.

Team Leadership & Development:
  • Lead and mentor a high-performing marketing team.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, agility, and excellence.
  • Build scalable processes that support rapid growth while maintaining brand integrity.
  • Inspire teams to challenge convention and create industry-leading work.

Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of progressive brand marketing experience.
  • 5+ years within prestige beauty, cosmetics, skincare, wellness, or adjacent consumer categories.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Proven success launching and scaling beauty products across retail and direct-to-consumer channels.
  • Strong understanding of today's beauty landscape, creator economy, and omnichannel consumer journey.
  • Comfortable operating in a high-innovation environment, leading the successful commercialization of a large portfolio of annual product launches through integrated go-to-market strategies that drive excitement, retail productivity, and consumer demand.
  • Experience working within founder-led brands.
  • Experience managing launches at Sephora, Ulta, or specialty beauty retailers.
  • Experience partnering closely with Product Development, Marketing and Sales teams.

You'll Thrive Here If:
  • You're energized by building. This is a founder-led brand with real room to shape the brand — and that genuinely excites you.
  • You are low ego and a team player and not only recognize the power of teamwork but embrace what can be unlocked when teams work collaboratively.
  • You make things happen. You don't just plan or direct - execution is core to how you work.
  • You're tuned into culture. Not just beauty — fashion, design, music, and the moments that move people. You understand why things resonate, not just what's trending.
  • You take ownership. You don't wait to be told what to do next — you anticipate, act, and make the work better by being in the room.
  • You have a strong understanding of professional makeup artists, beauty creators, and beauty retail environments.
  • You are a highly collaborative leader who thrives in fast-paced growth environments.
  • You’re a strategic thinker with strong creative instincts and analytical rigor.
  • You are an exceptional communicator capable of influencing across all levels of an organization.
  • Comfortable operating as a player-coach, balancing strategy, leadership, and hands-on execution.
