Job description

The Executive Director is to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the overall management, fundraising, financial health, and external relations of Stoked on Life. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for our mission, possess strong leadership and management skills, and have a proven track record of success in the nonprofit sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and implement a clear and compelling vision and strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors, staff, and stakeholders.

  • Ensure the organization's programs and activities align with its mission and strategic goals.

  • Ensure all staff and volunteers understand and align with the organization's mission and purpose.

  • Work in partnership with Clinical Director to develop, implement and research programming.

  • Work in partnership with International Surf Therapy Organization and other aquatic therapy organizations to stay informed on best practices and current research.

  • Provide leadership and direction to staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performing work environment.

  • Stay informed of current trends and best practices in the nonprofit sector and relevant fields.

Fundraising and Resource Development:

  • Ensure the financial sustainability of the organization.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure diverse funding sources, including individual donors, corporations, foundations, and government grants.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential donors and funders.

  • Oversee grant writing, donor cultivation events, and other fundraising initiatives.

Program Development and Management:

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of impactful programs and services that meet the needs of the community.

  • Oversee research and data analysis with Clinical Director and research partners to further the efficacy of program.

  • Ensure program quality, effectiveness, and adherence to relevant standards and regulations.

  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement in program delivery.

  • Facilitate all administrative duties such as invoicing, payroll, staff and session scheduling, permit, insurance, all other administrative tasks necessary to run organization.

Financial Management and Oversight:

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and finance staff to develop and manage the annual budget.

  • Ensure sound financial management practices, including accurate record-keeping, reporting, and compliance with all financial regulations.

  • Monitor financial performance and implement strategies to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.

Board Relations:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the staff and the Board of Directors.

  • Work collaboratively with the Board Chair to develop meeting agendas and materials.

  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Board on the organization's activities, financial performance, and progress toward strategic goals.

  • Support the Board in its governance responsibilities and facilitate effective communication.

External Relations and Advocacy:

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the organization, representing its mission and values to the community, media, and other stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, government agencies, and other relevant organizations.

  • Advocate for the needs of the community and the organization's mission at local, regional, and potentially state levels.

  • Enhance the organization's visibility and public image.

Staff Management and Development:

  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and mentor qualified and dedicated staff.

  • Foster a positive and inclusive organizational culture that values teamwork, collaboration, and professional growth.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide opportunities for staff development and training.

  • Ensure compliance with all HR policies and employment laws.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure the organization operates in compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards.

  • Oversee the development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures.

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks to the organization.

Stoked on Life is a nonprofit surf therapy organization that services teens and adults experiencing mental health and substance use issues. We provide sessions at the beach or pool with licensed clinicians and certified aquatic staff for our experiential therapy groups.
