Job description

Connect Staffing is hiring a SCADA Engineer for a renewable energy company specializing in solar inverters and battery energy storage systems in Houston, TX. In this role, you will configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols, including Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, and OPC UA, and deploy SCADA/HMI systems for utility-scale battery energy storage and renewable energy projects. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, commissioning, and customer teams on live utility-scale projects.
Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Location: Hybrit - Remote 50% travel required

Work Environment: Industrial / Field / Utility Project Sites
Responsibilities
  • Configure, validate, and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols - Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, CANbus, RS-485, OPC UA/OPC DA, DNP3, IEC 61850, and MQTT - across utility-scale battery energy storage systems.
  • Coordinate data integration between BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), PCS (Power Conversion System) equipment, EMS (Energy Management System) platforms, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), utility SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and third-party monitoring platforms.
  • Configure and support industrial historians and time-series data platforms, including AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI), Canary Historian, Ignition Historian, and InfluxDB.
  • Configure and troubleshoot OPC connectivity middleware, including Kepware KEPServerEX and OPC server environments.
  • Diagnose communication, telemetry, and network performance issues using protocol analyzers, packet captures, network monitoring tools, device logs, and register mapping validation.
  • Support FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) and SAT (Site Acceptance Tests) by documenting results and validating telemetry and data acquisition.

Minimum Requirements
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience configuring and troubleshooting industrial communication protocols Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, OPC UA, or CANbus in a SCADA, OT (Operational Technology) networking, industrial automation, or energy systems environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with utility-scale BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) or renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, or grid-tied storage.
  • Experience deploying or integrating SCADA/HMI platforms such as Inductive Automation Ignition, AVEVA/Wonderware, FactoryTalk, or Siemens WinCC.
  • Familiarity with Linux-based systems in an OT (Operational Technology) or industrial networking context.
  • Hands-on use of Kepware KEPServerEX or similar OPC connectivity middleware.
  • Experience with AVEVA PI System (OSIsoft PI), InfluxDB, or other time-series historian platforms.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English and Mandarin is highly preferred.
