Job description

Director of Human Resources Leadership Opportunity

AN INVITATION

We're looking for more than a Director of Human Resources—we're looking for a builder.

Someone who is energized by creating systems, developing leaders, strengthening culture, and helping shape the future of a growing family-owned manufacturing company. If you're looking for a role where you can simply maintain an existing HR department, this probably isn't the right opportunity. If you're excited by the opportunity to build something enduring alongside a committed leadership team, we'd love to meet you.

ABOUT MIDWEST METALS

Midwest Metals is a privately held, family-owned manufacturing company built on integrity, hard work, long-term relationships, and taking care of our people. While our roots are in steel processing, we are rapidly evolving into a diversified manufacturing organization through acquisitions, new manufacturing capabilities, and strategic investment.

Our growth is intentional. We are building an organization that can thrive for generations while preserving the entrepreneurial spirit and family-oriented culture that have always defined who we are.

WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY IS DIFFERENT

This is not a traditional HR leadership position.

You won't inherit a mature HR department with every process already established. Instead, you'll help build the next generation of Midwest Metals by designing scalable people strategies, strengthening leadership, improving recruiting, developing managers, and ensuring our culture grows stronger as our company grows larger.

We want someone who sees opportunity where others see work and who wants to leave a lasting legacy.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Human Resources serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership and plant management. This leader will develop and execute HR strategies that support business growth while preserving the company's values, culture, and commitment to employees.

This position is based at our Adrian, Michigan headquarters with regular travel to our manufacturing facilities as needed.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

• Build a scalable HR function that supports continued multi-site growth.

• Develop leaders through coaching, accountability, and succession planning.

• Improve recruiting, onboarding, engagement, and retention.

• Implement meaningful HR metrics and analytics.

• Standardize HR processes while maintaining flexibility.

• Help make Midwest Metals an employer of choice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead all Human Resources operations across multiple manufacturing locations.

• Partner with executive leadership on workforce planning and organizational development.

• Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional talent.

• Oversee compensation, benefits, performance management, employee relations, compliance, FMLA, and policy administration.

• Develop leadership training and succession planning initiatives.

• Drive continuous improvement of HR systems, processes, and reporting.

• Support acquisitions, organizational integration, and future growth initiatives.

• Foster a culture of accountability, respect, safety, and continuous improvement.

LEADERSHIP PHILOSOPHY

Our leaders are visible, approachable, and engaged. They spend time in our facilities, build relationships with employees, make data-informed decisions, and are willing to roll up their sleeves to solve problems. We believe humility, integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement are essential leadership qualities.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (master's preferred).

• Progressive HR leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.

• Multi-site experience strongly preferred.

• Experience developing leaders and building scalable HR processes.

• Knowledge of employment law, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and compliance.

• SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

WHO WILL THRIVE HERE

The ideal candidate is collaborative, emotionally intelligent, practical, and ambitious. They enjoy building organizations, coaching leaders, solving problems, and creating lasting impact. They are as comfortable on the plant floor as they are in the boardroom.

OUR COMMITMENT

We aren't looking for someone to simply work for us—we're looking for someone who wants to build something enduring with us.

Our greatest competitive advantage isn't our equipment or our facilities—it's our people. By investing in great people, empowering leaders, and building a culture founded on trust, accountability, and continuous improvement, we believe we can create a company that endures for generations.

If that mission excites you, we'd welcome the opportunity to meet you. Please include your resume and required compensation.
