Job description

Title: Director of Merchandising Analytics

Location: Hybrid in New Providence, NJ highly preferred

About the Role

As our business continues to grow, we are seeking a financially minded, agile, and entrepreneurial Director of Merchandising Analytics to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone with 5+ years of Buying experience in trend-driven retail or consumer products environments who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative business.

The ideal candidate understands both the numbers and the product lifecycle — someone who can analyze profitability, manage forecasting, support margin strategy, and partner cross-functionally with merchandising, product development, sourcing, sales, and operations teams.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter who is adaptable, solutions-oriented, and excited by the opportunity to help drive financial decision-making within a dynamic consumer goods business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and analyze product costing, margin calculations, and profitability modeling across multiple product categories and retail channels
  • Build and maintain financial models related to pricing, sourcing, landed cost analysis, and retailer margin requirements
  • Support leadership with ownership of forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning initiatives
  • Analyze business performance trends and identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency
  • Partner cross-functionally with merchandising, product development, sourcing, and sales teams to evaluate new product opportunities
  • Monitor and report on forecast actualization, margin trends, and overall financial performance metrics
  • Assist in retailer-specific financial analysis including promotional planning, pricing strategies, and assortment profitability
  • Support month-end close activities related to sales actualization, costing, and margin reporting.
  • Work within company tools, dashboards, and reporting processes to improve financial visibility and business decision-making
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations that support growth, innovation, and financial optimization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in merchandising finance, buying, or related financial roles required
  • Experience within trend-driven retail and/or consumer products environments required
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Gross margin analysis
    • Forecasting and budget planning
    • Financial modeling
    • Inventory and profitability analysis
    • Retail pricing structures and margin expectations
  • Experience working with fast-turn consumer goods categories strongly preferred:

    • Crafts
    • Stationery
    • Accessories
    • Home Décor
    • Celebration / Seasonal
    • Impulse categories
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
