Job description

Manufacturing Assistant Team Lead

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Department: Production

Location: Taylorville, IL

Exempt Status: Nonexempt

Pay: $27.13

JOB SUMMARY

Assists the operator and fills in for basic operator duties as assigned. Maintains production area cleanliness and safety standards. Must complete all applicable SOP and QA training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities:

 

  • With direction from the supervisor, assists in maintaining the quality of production on the shift.
  • With direction from the supervisor, assists in meeting the shift productivity goals.
  • Responsible and accountable for following the production schedule.
  • Responsible for bringing any production issues to management for appropriate escalation.
  • Ability to take good notes, address issues with management, and escalate concerns or requests brought up by employees.
  • Directly supervises the successful startup of first batches as necessary.
  • Receives and acts on instructions given from superiors
  • Interacts and communicates with all shifts professionally and productively.
  • Interacts and communicates with other departments (Maintenance, Warehouse, etc.) professionally and productively.
  • Establishes and maintains a good working relationship between shifts. 
  • Working knowledge and ability to operate all blenders and equipment, including packaging, milling, and cleaning equipment, is preferred.
  • Will be required to become a technical matter expert for all manufacturing processes, safety, and quality to train employees and make observations/corrections as needed.
  • Audits equipment cleaning and use log books.
  • Accurately audits completed batch records and makes necessary corrections.
  • Recommends changes to batch records to reduce errors, improve efficiency, etc.
  • Completes work orders as needed and records equipment problems that could not be corrected.
  • Completes worker-related accident forms.
  • Assists in workplace accident investigations as necessary.
  • Records ideas for productivity improvements and other matters of importance and shares them with management as appropriate.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the department's paperwork including but not limited to:
    • Ensuring that the correct batch record is being used.
    • How to record information on the batch records.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training:      

 

  • Minimum of High School Degree.

 

Experience Required:

 

  • Minimum of four years as a successful machine operator in a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Forklift certification required.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:       

 

  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask (work on and manage several projects at once).
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Has well-established work habits that can be used to set an example for the workforce. 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent record keeping skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail skills.

 

TYPICAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Ability to work while wearing Personal Protective Equipment including a respirator.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 55 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items, work with the fingers, and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
  • Involves strenuous physical activity primarily labor-intensive in nature.

 

Typical Environmental Conditions

 

  • May be exposed to moderate noise levels (i.e., office equipment, light traffic).
  • May be exposed to moderate to high noise levels (i.e., production equipment, forklifts, heavy traffic).
  • May be exposed to humidity, intense heat and cold, outdoor weather conditions, and fumes and toxic chemicals.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
