Job Description:

This role corresponds to a level 3 System Engineering position, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Systems Engineering. As part of this position, candidates have to opportunity to join an exceptional team of engineering professionals who collaborate closely and take a team-focused approach to developing and solving intricate systems solutions for our end customers. As a Level 3 Systems Engineer, you'll be recognized as a senior professional with comprehensive knowledge across various job functions. Effective communication both within and outside the engineering organization is essential, as you'll influence changes to best practices, processes, policies, and engineering approaches. Your impact will contribute significantly to the overall achievements and success of engineering and the SATCOM business. Additionally, excelling in time management, prioritizing multiple requests, collaborating with cross functional teams, and thriving in an environment where your contributions positively impact the company's success are key aspects of this role.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the engineering ownership of SATCOM VSAT product lines.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    • System level design and development, bill of material (BOM) documentation, and sustainment of existing terminals with the SATCOM product portfolio
    • Custom system configuration and overall system integration development per customer and program requirements.
    • Design and Development of system level interconnect diagrams and cable assemblies.
    • Direct manufacturing support of product line issues and root cause analysis.
    • Customer support of technical issues on fielded systems and units. 
    • Direct programs and product management support.
    • Ability to work with outside vendors to perform system level design and integration.
    • Ability to work within large cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, electrical, test engineering, etc) to achieve product line objectives.
  • Responsible for new product development of total VSAT system solutions.  Candidate will need to coordinate and own the technical schedule, cost evaluation/constraints, and program/customer requirements needs from beginning to end.  Additional responsibilities for this area would include, but are not limited to:
  • Development and implement system specifications and the flow down to lower-level specifications. 
  • Provide input into new product development, processes, and engineering standards that shall impact the success of the SATCOM business.
  • Willing and able to research, learn, and implement new areas of knowledge and tools in such areas as mechanical, electrical, and RF engineering.
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally to meet with and support customers for current systems and future development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge of and experience working with SATCOM VSAT systems, both End-to-End and single terminal side, RF networking and systems, wired networking, MIL-STD data links, and modems.  Common modem types with preferred experience are iDirect, Comtech, Linkabit MPMs, and Viasat.
  • SATCOM product development experience from initial conception through design release and support of manufacturing readiness.
  • Experience with engineering support of proposal development, technical writing, and business/program acquisition process.
  • Experience and familiarity with working directly with customers and vendors for development opportunities.
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of project management.
  • Experience with government contracting and logistical support.
  • Familiarity with RF budget analysis.
  • Experience with and the ability to perform hands on SATCOM system level troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Requires proficient knowledge of job area.
  • May have practical knowledge of project management. 

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in NY State is $80,500 - $149,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
