About the role
The Manager of Manufacturing Engineering is a technical leadership role responsible for the daily management and continuous improvement of our metal manufacturing and final assembly processes. This individual will lead a team to support and optimize production, reduce manufacturing costs through continuous improvement and automation, justify and procure capital equipment, and work with NPD teams to launch new products. This role is also responsible for developing a manufacturing strategy that aligns with site and corporate objectives. The ideal candidate will have direct experience in metal fabrication and automation and a proven ability to lead technical teams.
Compensation: $130,000-$160,000
Annual Broad Based Bonus: 20%
What you will be doing
  • Work with key stakeholders to select, assign, and manage projects and priorities, in order to achieve facility and corporate goals within budget requirements.
  • Assist Facility Manager in the planning process based on Company goals and directives. This includes the addition of equipment capacity and new processes based on forecasted and existing sales growth and market patterns.
  • Apply ISO/QS 9001 management principles to achieve Southco's goal of designing, manufacturing and controlling processes to meet the needs of our customers. This includes management of the use of tools such as FMEA's, Control Plans, process and set-up sheets, SPC, tool and product designs and drawings, manufacturing routings, BOM's, and Cost Estimates. Work directly with customers, as required, to meet their needs.
  • Lead the efforts in advancing technology in the company through continuous improvement of current machines, tooling, and processes. Develop new concepts and research, justify and purchase capital expenditures for upgrading technology in the facility.
  • Represent the facility as a liaison to Corporate Engineering Departments on manufacturing methods, product design and technical services. Review all designs submitted for manufacturability and assembly to World Class standards.
  • Assist facility in meeting World Class Customer Service objectives by analyzing material flow through the facility, bottleneck areas, lead-time reduction by faster throughput, set-up reduction; and the elimination of operations. Optimize facility layouts to achieve goals.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, setting clear expectations for ownership, urgency, and solution-oriented problem solving. Plus developing future leaders through targeted growth, stretch assignments, and succession planning.

  • BSME Degree
  • Familiar with low and high volume manufacturing and automated manufacturing methods
  • Metal manufacturing, assembly and finishing experience (rolling, cold heading, screw machines, etc.)
  • Experience with capital budgeting and justification
  • Experience with design principles and their relation to manufacturing
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle multiple projects, utilizing project planning techniques
  • CAD experience
  • Seven (7) or more years of Engineering Management / Supervision experience
  • Seven (7) or more years Manufacturing Engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of ISO/QS 9001 quality system and tools, i.e., FMEA, Capability Study, DOE
  • Quality and Safety driven
