Job Summary

The Director of Managed Payroll is responsible for leading payroll service delivery across clients, teams, and payroll systems. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to Payroll Client Managers, Senior Payroll Client Managers, and payroll delivery teams to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing. The ideal candidate brings deep payroll expertise, strong client relationship management skills, and a proven history of leading multi-consultant payroll teams in a managed services environment.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field preferred
  • 7-10+ years of progressive payroll experience
  • 3-5+ years of leadership experience managing payroll teams or managed payroll services
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple consultants, payroll professionals, and client-facing teams
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll regulations, tax requirements, and compliance standards
  • Strong experience with payroll systems, HCM platforms, and HRIS technology
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly preferred
Responsibilities and Scope
  • Lead and oversee managed payroll services to ensure consistent, high-quality client delivery
  • Direct, mentor, and develop Payroll Client Managers, Senior Payroll Client Managers, and payroll team members
  • Serve as the senior escalation point for complex payroll issues, client concerns, and risk management matters
  • Ensure payrolls are processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Oversee quarterly and year-end payroll activities, including tax filings, W-2 processing, 1099 reporting, and agency correspondence
  • Manage client portfolio performance, service delivery expectations, and client satisfaction outcomes
  • Partner with HCM, HR, Data Services, and technology teams to support integrated service delivery
  • Drive payroll process improvements, standardization initiatives, and operational efficiencies
  • Oversee resource planning, client assignments, and workload balancing across payroll teams
  • Support client retention, service expansion opportunities, and overall organizational growth
