Job description

Quality Machinery Systems, Inc. is a long-established independent machine tool distributor serving manufacturers across Illinois. We provide CNC and manual machine tools, turnkey installations, applications support, and responsive service and parts support. We are looking for a Machine Tool Field Service Technician who can deliver high-quality onsite service while also assisting our internal Parts Department with technical identification, sourcing, and customer support.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety—diagnosing machines in the field, supporting customers directly, and helping keep our parts operations running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

Field Service & Technical Support

• Install, troubleshoot, and repair CNC and manual machine tools (lathes, machining centers, grinders, mills, etc.).

• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control-related issues on equipment from brands such as Eurotech Elite, Toyoda/JTEKT, Milltronics, Kingston and others.

• Perform preventive maintenance, alignments, and accuracy verifications.

• Provide onsite and remote technical support to customers, including operator guidance.

• Document service work clearly and accurately, including parts used, labor hours, and recommended follow-up actions. (software provided)

• Maintain a professional, customer-first presence at all times.

    Parts Department Support

    • Assist with identifying required replacement parts based on machine model, serial number, and customer symptoms.

    • Support the parts team by researching OEM and aftermarket part numbers, cross-referencing components, and communicating with vendors.

    • Provide technical insight to ensure customers receive the correct components the first time.

      Travel & Scheduling

      • Travel throughout Illinois and occasionally surrounding states for service calls.

      • Manage daily schedule, travel routes, and onsite time efficiently.

      • Maintain company-provided tools, laptop.

      Technical Background

      • Experience servicing CNC machine tools, industrial equipment, or similar electro mechanical systems.

      • Strong understanding of mechanical assemblies, electrical schematics, pneumatics, and hydraulics.

      • Familiarity with CNC controls (Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Milltronics, etc.) is a major plus.

      • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.

        Professional Traits

        • Clear communicator who can explain technical issues to both operators and management.

        • Organized, self-directed, and comfortable working independently in the field.

        • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to minimizing downtime.

        • Willingness to support internal operations (parts, service coordination) when not in the field.

          Requirements

          • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel daily.

          • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in industrial environments.

          • Prior machine tool service experience preferred, but strong industrial maintenance backgrounds will be considered.
