Job description

Position Summary:

The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing in maintaining the standards of resident care, advising the medical staff, department heads, and administrator in matters related to nursing services. This person will assist the Director of Nursing in establishing policies, interpreting policies according to the standards of nursing practice, and general staff development.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the DON in administration of policies and procedures of the Health Center Department.
  • Assist the DON in planning, organizing, and supervising the Health Center Department in order to insure competent nursing care for the residents.
  • Assist or maintain an active staff development program.
  • Encourages increased competency and skill in all levels of the Health Center Department staff.
  • Advises the DON of any problems related to resident care.
  • Monitors the resident medical and nursing history for completeness and inclusion in the medical record.
  • May serve as care plan coordinator to conduct care plan conferences and maintains each conference interdisciplinary.
  • Participates in QAA.
  • Establishes and maintains good public relations.
  • Assists the DON to maintain the standards of care.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse with a current license in good standing.
  • Three years experience in long-term care preferred.
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of standards of care and practices applicable to the delivery of geriatric services, complex medical conditions, multiple medical diagnoses, including preventive measures, rehabilitation, and promoting independence.
