The Global Learning Program Manager is part of the Global Engagement team who lead global programs and strategy, and promote global diversity and intercultural learning for the University. Key programs and responsibilities in Global Engagement include international students and scholars, education abroad, international partnerships and strategic initiatives, University-sponsored international travel approval for the University, and campus programming that supports global diversity and intercultural learning.
The Global Learning Program Manager is part of a small dynamic team that includes the Director and Assistant Director of Global Learning, and part of the larger team in Global Engagement that leads programs and initiatives for students, faculty and staff that enhances global perspectives and global learning at the University. Global Learning in Global Engagement is the central hub for SCU student experiences abroad and a key department with responsibility for executing the goals of SCU's strategic plan, Our programs provide students with global learning outcomes that exemplify an SCU Impact 2030 Priority One: Reach on a Global Scale. Employing developmentally and culturally appropriate advising frameworks and methods for students and families
Demonstrates understanding of all undergraduate major/minor/Core requirements, Global Learning program courses for all approved programs (approximately 60 academic year and 30 summer programs) and advises students on course planning, integration and selection.
Provides advising to diverse student and campus populations, including targeted group advising, supervision of peer-advising, and individual advising appointments.
Advises prospective, current and returned participants and their families in areas such as University policy, programs, health and safety, financing, course planning and curriculum requirements
Stays current with changes in University policies, Global Learning program portfolio, scholarship opportunities and undergraduate degree programs
Maintains awareness of health, safety, risk management issues in education abroad
Develops advising materials and resources, including writing and designing content for the Global Learning Advising Module in Camino.
Identifies new opportunities to improve upon the existing advising program based on best practices
Serves as primary lead responding to the globallearning@scu.edu inbox
Program Management (50%)Work as part of a team by assuming primary or secondary responsibility for one or more specific programs managed by the Global Learning Team
a. Peer Advisor Program Management and Supervision:
In collaboration with the Director of Global Learning, provides day-to-day management of the Peer Advisor Program, including hiring, training and supervision of six Peer Advisors.
Manages Peer Advisor schedules and advising appointment schedules.
Develops training curriculum, e.g., videos, quizzes for Peer Advisor Program
b. Outreach/Advising/Application Program Management
Plans and manages the annual Global Opportunities Expo fair; Coordinates event logistics and partners with vendors, campus collaborators, and Global Learning program student alumni to support successful programming.
Actively participates in Global Learning application review and selection process
Creates and manages promotional materials, newsletters, social media content, and digital campaigns that reflect SCU's values of diversity and cura personalis.
Writes/Manages/Sends weekly newsletter sent to all prospective/interested students
Writes/Manages/Sends parent/family newsletter for all interested parents/families
May engage in social media communications (YouTube channel, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
c. Pre-departure Orientation Program Management
Responsible for organization of pre-departure orientation programming that is mandatory for all students participating in Global Learning programs including: health and safety, verification of mandatory pre-departure forms; organization of on-line and in-person mandatory sessions; student communication including reminders and make-up sessions
d. Evaluation/Re-entry/Returning Student Program Management
Manages reentry programming for all students after return to campus from Global Learning programs including focus on academic and career integration
Manages the dissemination and collection of the mandatory Global Learning programs evaluation and SCU Global Learning assessment components, including communication to students who do not submit by the deadline
e. Tracks programming attendance and participation outcomes to guide strategic improvements and ensure inclusive outreach.
f. Analyzes student participation data, assessment results, and trends in Global Learning to guide improvements and emphasize the ability to use data to measure program outcomes.
g. Conducts site visits to programs abroad and/or participates in education abroad meetings focused on best practices, e.g., The Forum, normally once annually
Cross-Departmental Communications and Collaboration (10%)
Collaborates with academic departments, student organizations, Drahmann Center, Residential Learning, LEAD, Honors, Athletics, RLCs, International Students and Scholars, Young Scholars Program, Transfer Student Welcome. Leads or participates in programming, working groups or designated committees that promote Global Engagement to faculty, staff and students across campus.
Arranges student participation and may represent Global Learning to support campus-wide events such as, Family Weekend, Preview Days, Orientation, and Welcome Weekend
Responsible for marketing the Peer Advising program to students and other constituencies
Supports Director and Assistant Director in generating content for the website
Updates content provided by Director/Assistant Director in Terra Dotta. Recommend design and format updates to improve user experience with Terra Dotta with an understanding of data integrity necessary for staff.
Leads or actively participates in programs or initiatives within Global Engagement that contribute broadly to the internationalization of the campus and collaborates with colleagues within Global Engagement and other departments to achieve effective outcomes for events and initiatives
Knowledgeable about intercultural/global learning
Builds relationships across campus to further Global Engagement's institution-wide responsibility for campus internationalization
Excellent cross-cultural, written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, overseas universities and organizations
